It's not that he copies ideas from people the thing that bothers me, it's the fact that he doesn't credits people when he takes and uses their ideas.
Every day that passes I dislike Mojang and Minecraft even more.
notch has a rule, when you make mods based off of the minecraft code, you submit them as ideas for mojang, as a result he says they have the right to take these ideas when ever they want and the submitter should NOT use it for monetary gain
its posted in the wiki, in the mods section i think
Why does this even matter if Notch didn't steal anything? (breeding and potions are 2 very vague things done by many games and people who claim that Notch stole them has the intelligence of a doorknob)
The title of the image was a joke between Citricsquid and Notch, with the former saying something along the lines of "Waiting until someone uploads screencap of hatemail with a title calling the writer a loser" and Notch replied by *jokingly* uploading the picture under the title "What a loser.."

if you guys managed to read more than 2 sentances before launching yourself into rage all of this could be avoided. jesus cocksmashing christ
Deal with it. Theres no trademark so what If Notch stole it? Isn't it good enough that we all don't have to go through the pain Of adding the god damn thing? Also, Im sorry to say this but GET THE F*** OUT. Sorry but I had to. :I

Notch wouldn't just copy+paste mods into Minecraft and call them his own. Even if he saw a mod that he really want implemented, he would only be using it for inspiration.
Hmm except none of those mods, atleast from the ones I saw, were actually original ideas in the first place.
Lets take breeding.
How in anyway is a Mod that introduces Breeding an original concept? Humans have been breeding animals, and humans, since man first was able to tame animals. Its an ancient concept and any modder who claims it was their idea is full of ********. Minecraft has farming in it, part of farming also includes breeding and raising livestock. Lots of farming games and games with farming seem to have this.
Breeding = No where near original idea. Its free for the taking by anyone who wants to include it in their own game.
Potions.
Potions are no where original either. The idea of both medicinal potions and magic potions have existed for thousands of years now. They are common in fantasy games and even in books.
So again. Notch didnt ripp off or stole anything. Because anyone claiming ownership over the idea that they somehow own potions or breeding is full of BS. I can name a bunch of other games that had potions in it long before Minecraft was thought of. Its not an original idea at all.
As for the idea of ripping off/stealing Cauldrons.
You guys do know what a cauldron is right? There used to cook stuff. You hang the cauldron over an open fire and you cook **** in it. Now of course its become popular belief that Witches would use cauldrons to brew their potions and stuff. Which is where the idea of Harry Potter using cauldrons to brew potions and stuff.
Either way again its just another unoriginal idea. Not to say that its bad or anything, its just an example of Jeb taking a real world item and adding it to Minecraft.
if someone makes mod wich includes it does it make cauldron a copy-righted feature
Names, ideas, and such can't be copyrighted. They can be trademarked. In fact claiming copyright over a cauldron, or any of these real world items that have existed for a few thousand years is insane.
But even in certain circumstances you can actually use a trademarked name like Batman in a game/writing. Well not entirely sure. Im a bit fuzzy on it. :tongue.gif:
So - what is the actual evidence that mods were stolen? The examples given so far have been for amazingly generic ideas (potions and breeding, really?) that any number of people could have thought up without "stealing."
I'm sure the dude who made the potions mod is legitimately all up in a frenzy because he invented the idea of putting potions into a vaguely fantasy themed game. Gimme a break.
Bandying around vague accusations like this without any real evidence is lame. I haven't seen a single thing in this thread to convince me that these, again, incredibly generic ideas weren't implemented without "stealing" from some poor put-upon modder (who got the entire framework for what he does from... who?).
-Take idea that notch hinted he may add
-Create a mod from that
-Notch implements the idea he hinted
-Compain for stealing mods
Unless anyone can link a mod that creates huge strongholds or such complex potions, I would not say he is "stealing" mods.
Worth repeating. It does seem that this is often the case. Not always, but often people do run away with ideas that pop up from other sources, then pretend they own the idea. Then get angry when they think their idea was stolen, when the reality is the idea has been floating around for a while. Kinda sad, really.
The person who sent that e-mail was being very juvenile and unprofessional. It seems he wants to highjack Minecraft for his own use and expectations. Modders should be commended for the hard-work and dedication they have for their visions/ideas, but they do not control the future of Minecraft. They should also not throw tantrums when a similar mechanic to their mod is implemented in the game, even if it reduces their followers/supporters.
......So they added a generic fantasy element to an unfinished fantasy game and then complained when said fantasy game finally got to a point where they started adding content... and added the same generic fantasy element...
But but but He stole the textures too.....
.... The texture on the flask? in a game with what a 16x16 base grid... how many possible combinations for 'generic flask' does that leave you? Hmmmmmmm?
I love mods, I don't use them but I still love them. There are even a few that I'm following in the hopes that when MC gets official Mod support that I will be able to add them into my minecraft world. Primarily I follow Mods with an approximate 0.0% chance that they would ever be added to the base game.
Unfortunately if it comes down to Mods somehow restricting Mojangs creative freedom in their own as yet UNFINISHED game ..... I'm going to have to side with Mojang.
Edit: OK just watched a youtube video on Potioncraft ....... I'm not seeing a single similarity..... other than it involves "potions" ......
Just gonna throw this out there, Notch wanted to add potions into the game since he first started development. Along with loads of other stuff. And it's also a bit difficult to come up with game ideas 100% by yourself and your team.

Seriously. It it stays a mod no one will make mods for it.
Thanks for your time!
After a page of hate.
The mods are just copies of other games in themselves and bring nothing new to the table but amateur tier code and derivative game mechanics.
