For example, 1.9's prerelease. With potionmaking, he ripped off PotionCraft in some ways.
Oh noes! Notch never told you every idea he intended to implement, and there happened to be some overlap with what the community wanted! Or he saw something in a mod that seemed like a good idea and decided to implement it as part of the game, what a bad person, making HIS game better!
He could dissalow modding, and try to crush peoples creativity, but he doesn't. Why do you want to do that to him?

Notch didn't make a "manchild" out of himself. He just pointed out a fact.
How about the guy who actually created potions? Will he send an angry email to Notch because he added potions? Or will the witches from the medieval ages send an angry email to the creator of Better than Wolves?
So they used the mod ideas? Good. Maybe it's a hint to grow up and stop piggybacking on Minecraft. If you're so brilliant and productive make games, stop whoring for some mod section comments and reddit comments because I hate to break it to anyone but those have always been worthless.
world of warcraft stole it form games workshop :tongue.gif: and they likely borrowed from LOTR

He didn't even know about those mods. And why should notch be limited when making new updates, just because someone in the modding community has made something similar? That would make modding a bad thing -.-
Looks like they can't update Minecraft because if they do they might steal someone's idea, implement a better form of it, and hurt people's feelings.//sarcasm
I swear people just get more idiotic by the minute. If you don't like that he's using mods in the actual game then stop playing because a rather large portion of content was first released through mods.

-100 faith in Minecraft.
Stolen? So they stole all the source code and textures?
I think they got inspiration from the mods rather then stealing them. Maybe they had plans for these features way before the mods were even made.
Well he does kind of have a history of "stealing" mods and implementing them more or less as is. (Pistons, Powered Rail, Track Switches, Hatches, Fence Gates, etc...)
In fairness, there are a LOT of mods out there who invariably seem to have more time to dev for the game than the actual devs do, so many of these features do come out as mods first.
The problem is that Notch doesn't seem to write his own. Many of his updates do look exactly like the mod that came before them which begs the question of whether or not his team is actually doing anything themselves anymore. Admittedly Potions (and dragons) were both mentioned well over a year ago, but he should be writing his own (hopefully bigger and better) version, not stealing textures and code from modders without even bothering to credit them.
Makes you start to wonder who's actually writing this game. Notch? or the mod community?
Minecraft shares these things with other games, mods, books, ideas, manuscripts, movies, and real life.

Anyone who thinks Mojang is combing the internet for ideas to steal is a total idiot.
Mods are NOT OFFICIAL Minecraft content. They are considered as hacks for the game and patched from an outside source. How is Notch stealing mod ideas when modders derive their ideas from previous ideas that were made by other people? Anyone could have came up with the idea of adding potions to Minecraft, but they can't claim they actually own the idea. The variations of the new pre-release content are different from the mods as well. Mods aren't official, because they aren't from the creators of Minecraft. Mods are made by other people who publicly release the mods for others to use. There is no patent or copyright to these mods. Anyone can freely edit the codes and re-release the content under a different alias.

I don't even know where you are getting your information from. Pistons did start as a mod, but Mojang completely reimplemented it. Its done completly differently. Powered rails were planned prctically from the inception of minecarts, and were added as a replacement for the booster glitch. I don't recall any mention of hatch mods when hatches were added. Fence gates are very different from the shown mod. The mod gates where 2 blocks wide, and made the fence extend and unconnect. The current gates are 1 block wide and open from the center. All of these were added from scratch.
None of the mods looks exactly like the mod. None of them. they don't even act the same. If you look at the potion mod that notch is accused of copying, it doesn't even look similiar. The shape of the bottle is the same, and thats it. That shape is the classic potion vial, so who is surprised it looks like that?
Not to mention they are very transparant about actively developing the features. They show screenshots of it partially done, they take advice from the community that ends up in the feature, we end up with incomplete versions hidden in the code of releases.
Mojang is implementing their features from scratch. They look different visually, they are implemented differently on the back end, and have different ijmplications for engine modifications. In other words, your accusations are completly unfounded.
This thread is bad and you should all feel bad for agreeing with OP. If someone emailed me with the ******** the potioncraft guy emailed Notch I wouldn't have just stopped at calling him a loser; I would call his mom and accuse her of being a loser too, guilty of inbreeding a loser child.
Let's put it in more general terms. Creator A made a mod that added Example A to the game. Notch is playing Minecraft/coding Minecraft. While he's playing/coding he thinks up of new ideas to add to a game. Example A is that idea. Notch makes Example A part of the game because he feels it is a good idea. Example A has been in the thoughts of Minecraft since the start (Or somewhere along those lines) Notch also checked the forums for what most of Minecraft Forums wants in the game. He takes Example B along with Example A and add then. Creator A and B notice that Example A and B look like their mods, while not keeping in mind that Example A and B are mods that the community has been talking about for a long time. Creator B sends an email to Notch saying his work is **** and stole his mod from him. Notch gives a good old "You're an asshole".
Let's go on with that - saying that Mod A B C and D are mods that add vaguely similar things to the game. Notch already had that idea (probably) and finally implemented it. Why does Creator A and B not ***** at D or C that they stole from them? Why does Creator A B C and D ***** at Notch for taking a vague idea?
I believe some of these points have been mentioned before, but I'm sorry to say I don't feel like reading 6 pages and memorizing every post. Just think how hard making original content would be for minecraft, without copying mods. There are so many things already out there... He credited some of the modders alrwady for they're ideas, and other mods aren't original enough to deserve credit. Potions, pet wolves, enchanments, etc, are pretty generic ideas found in many games. No one can say "I have a potion mod so Notch is stealing my idea" because potions aren't original. If someone, however, had made an Enderman mod in the past(pre 1.8) then they would at least deserve beig credited...
notch has a rule, when you make mods based off of the minecraft code, you submit them as ideas for mojang, as a result he says they have the right to take these ideas when ever they want and the submitter should NOT use it for monetary gain
its posted in the wiki, in the mods section i think
We reserve the right to change this agreement at any time with or without notice, with immediate and/or retroactive effect.
Notch can do whatever he wants with his game, including add an agreement stating that all user created content for Minecraft is Property of Mojang and even back date it to the creation of Minecraft.
Any suggestions made are assumed to be offered for free unless otherwise agreed before the suggestion was made. We're not going to put up a huge EULA. We're trying to be open and honest, and we hope people treat us the same way back.
If there's anything legal you're wondering about that isn't answered from this page, don't do it and ask us about it. Basically, don't be ridiculous and we won't.

This is where you are wrong Nate, they do not need to give the guy/girl credit. Why you ask? Well:
- Adding potions to Minecraft is not original, a lot of people though of that, so the creator didn't though that first (even in gaming in general)
- Notch didn't used the guy/girl's code, he did it by himself (well, Mojang in general)so he didn't stole his work
- No texture in the mod is close to how potions looks in the pre-releases
- There are not 1000 ways of doing potions in a game like MC, so if they look like each other, it does not mean one comes from the other
- And nobody owns an idea
and if I made i mod I would be honored that it made it to the full game. plus I wouldnt need to work on it anymore.
it just shows the ideas were good enough for the full game
