The point of Minecraft is to be ALONE in a strange land isolated from society. Whereas the NPC villages are being established and all of a sudden you aren't alone any more!
Since when have you upgraded to be able to decide what "the point of Minecraft" is? Since when has Notch ever said you are supposed to be alone? He has NPC villages planned all the way since last October.

Four things: Don't complain about something that isn't here yet. For all you know, Notch will make these awesome. Next, if you really don't like them, tear them down. Also, I think the developer of the game (that's Notch) would know a bit better than you about the point of Minecraft. And last but not least, Minecraft has a plot? LOLWUT?
I honestly can't wait for npc villages, the only thing that would turn me away from liking them is if Notch suddenly decides to make them populated with humans instead of Pig men, or if they are common.
The reason why i like them is because the loneliness in Minecraft has to be the one of the things i can no longer stand about Minecraft. When you think about it, how can there be a world filled with vegetation, water, and animals but no civilized creatures besides you anywhere on that world? It kinda makes no sense ( then again, what does make sense in Minecraft :biggrin.gif: ?).
This solves one of the few problems i have with single player minecraft, no exploration, no adventure, and repetitiveness. NPC villages adds exploration and adventure to my game ( along with everything else in 1.8) and adds what every sand box game has, an npc city/town/village. You don't have to live with the villagers, you can go to war with them! You can burn their houses down and take all of there things! Or you can help them, which i will probably do because it would be very interesting seeing what you can do with the villagers, and because I'm a good person.
The feel of minecraft is up to the creators, if they want to change what Minecraft is about, then they should just do it. Whatever adds more to the game i will like. Except for outer space, guns and other humans :smile.gif:.
wait there will be NPCs? I thought it was just the village. NPC bots would be weird. :S Maybe I can kill all the villagers :biggrin.gif: I'll set traps :biggrin.gif: I've got my week set. ^.^

This is going to be the "Adventure Update" ,so of course this going to be NPC Villages. The Minecraft Single Player is currently at "survival" mode. But any case I hope I can steal items from them.
You know, I have no problem imagining sometime in the future people who are now making posts complaining about as yet not fully revealed feature making posts like: "Can you believe that back in 2011 people used to play this game with no NPCs? How boring and pointless that must have been."
well, to be honest, i think it is a good idea, if its not like millenaire.
i personally hate millenaire. they build everywhere, and their houses suck.
THEY BUILT INSIDE OF MY HOUSE! Npcs made by notch wouldnt do that u.ú
Let's just hope the NPCs are not people, I could stand pigmen or goblins or what-so-ever, yet people would totally ruin the game for me...
So, instead of trying to make Notch to totally not add the feature, maybe it is still possible to try to make him do it less catastrophic. Pigmen would be a lot better than people, they're totally different specie, original and would save the feeling better. It's a whole different story if you walk in a NPC-village where everyone speaks english and greets you and you just walk in a store or market or whatever tavern to buy some bread, than if you'd encounter a small village of huts and tribal pigmen, neither of you understanding each other. You'd need to earn their trust through helping them, and sometimes they just would be hostile/turn hostile at you for or without a reason.
EDIT: For everyone who says "If you don't like the villages burn them down": It just doesn't work like that, the village has already ruined the feeling, and you know there will be more. Also I don't personally like destroying stuff like that, I'd consider it griefing. One can't get back the feeling of loneliness by killing the NPCs and destroying their villages, it's like burning a speeding ticket and then claim it never existed. It won't work.

You're comparing NPC villages to burning a speeding ticket? NPC villages aren't put into a police database. There is no warrent for my arrest if I refuse to "pay" my NPC villages. If I tell Notch where he can stick his villages, I don't get a misconduct charge. Your analogy fails.
These villages and its denizens will most likely not be persistent, much unlike the Millenaire mod. This means that if I decide to just burn that ****er to the floor, it's VERY much like it never existed. Plus, if you don't like destroying stuff why are you even complaining if you're not willing to do anything about it? That's like saying "Oh, I don't like creeper explosions, but I like creepers so I refuse to switch to peaceful."

I agree 100%!

100% APPROVE.
But otherwise, yeah, it might suck. But who knows? I it might be the best thing to come to minecraft. Just don't update if you don't want it.
Also, I hope the villages are inhabited by pigmen.
