You sir, are either very new to Minecraft, or very ignorant. Most of these features were promised ages ago, when there was no terraria. Terraria can go fail somewhere else. In fact, Terraria copied the ideas.
Ok had to pop in here to say that my CoD to Battlefield, and Kirby to Mario examples aren't that good. But what the op means to say is that Notch is not allowed to add anything to the game because he's adding it AFTER he went on a terraria spree. Terraria took nothing from minecraft, only inspiration, and Notch is taking nothing but inspiration from terraria. It has a much better adventure aspect, while Minecraft has a weak adventure aspect. If he wants to be inspired by terraria, which he clearly is, it doesn't mean he's copying it. All of these things have been planned WAY before terraria came out. Terraria is a great game, and so is minecrfat, but for different reasons.
I haven't played Tarraria - though, I do plan on giving it a go.
NPC villages (Granted, he did plan these for a while. However, he decided to implement them after he went on a spree of playing terraria...his competition...as opposed to making things for Minecraft)
*Terraria Counterpart: The ability to make NPC villages (slightly different)
As you've said yourself, he's stated he had these ideas for a while - yes, it probably has taken some healthy competition to get him to implement it. I don't see anything wrong with that.
A new mob (New mobs planned all after his terraria spree...hm)
*Terraria Counterpart: Lots of different mobs
I would be horrified if Notch never added more mobs. I don't even see a need to justify adding more enemies.
Different style dungeons (Again, after his terraria spree..)
*Terraria Counterpart: Different dungeons such as Underground jungle, Corruption, Actual Dungeon
The entire game is based around mining... it's called minecraft... and everyone who has ever played it for more than a few hours, including Notch, I'm sure, has been yearning for more varied landscapes and caves.
More complex combat (After terraria spree, again)
*Terraria Counterpart: Methods of combat such as shooting star guns, magic, etc
Again, this is just another natural progression for any game, much like many of the things you're talking about, you need to start off simple and build on them.
More unique and interesting world generation (This is pretty vague...though the slew of underground and dungeon-related things he decided to add comes right from terraria)
*Terraria Counterpart: There's lots of different features in a generated Terraria world.
Didn't you already mention this?
Big mushrooms (From terraria, again.)
*Terraria Counterpart: Underground giant mushrooms.
Now, here we go... This might actually have been inspired by Tarraria. As I said, I haven't played, so I wont comment here.
Underground ravines (Improving the underground, which is so prominent in Terraria. copying again)
*Terraria Counterpart: Most of the exciting things are underground.
Hmm... again? Really? Okay... Minecraft is about digging and exploring underground... These are the updates we have all been waiting for, trying to say these are stolen from a game that was made after Minecraft is outrageous.
If you can seriously come to this topic and say that Notch is not basing Adventure mode on Terraria, you are the most naive person I know.
Disregarding everyone else's opinions before they have stated them... I'm not sure you can get more arrogant than that, Congratulations!
I understand what you're trying to say, but I think you're wrong. Tarraria is a finished game, from which, you'd expect all the bells and whistles, which it sounds like you get with it.
Minecraft is in late/mid beta stage, where you would expect to see large amounts of content added after all the major kinks are ironed out.
Everything draws inspiration from everything else, that's normal, and there is nothing wrong with that. You see this a lot in game developmental. It's a good thing.
The only problem with MOJANG* copying (or being inspired by lol) these things from Terraria is that all the fanboys will say that it was a part of MC first.
Also, OP never mention Terraria on these forums. No one but the intelligent will even think about accepting some of the things you mention. They're all a bunch of sheep.
Another thing MC forum goers, if you're going to say that Terraria is a ripoff of MC at least say that MC is a ripoff of Infiminer. General statement.
*PEOPLE MOJANG NOT ONLY NOTCH MOJANG. This is something that drives me insane.
He'd be ****ing dumb to not take "inspiration" from Terraria.
Becasue all terrrari has to do is release a "Terraria 3D" and minecraft would be ruined. Because IMO all Terraria lack to me is the creative aspect due to the absence of that 3rd dimension. It needs something to do when all the loot has been found.
Everything is based on something, that's a lame argument. Should minecraft take away the wasd controls just because that's standard for an fps? This is somewhat of a new genre, and no one really knows what the potential is. Everyone is experimenting, and no one really knows what they are doing. It's new territory. Just as before we had the term "fps", we had the term "doom clone" (some of you may be a little young to remember those days). The doom clone has given us much, but each game had to copy from the previous before finding the ways to deviate and add variety. Remember when halo took away all of your weapon carry capacity and added regenerating health? HUGE change. But they are still working within the framework.
Minecraft took infiniminer and made it good. Terraria took the very ambitious minecraft, found a way to make it LESS ambitious, while increasing the gamey capability. The minecraft team in turn wants to continue to increase the fun and variety of gameplay while keeping the ambition.
The question you should be asking is not who is copying who, but who will produce the better game at the end of it all. As a gamer, shouldn't you be looking for the best game*, rather than worrying about where the ideas are coming from?
*And of course best game is subjective. All "minecraft clones" (for lack of an official genre title yet) will suit slightly different tastes. I still prefer doom to halo for instance.
Deal with it
or terraria also has gravity apply to sand so that too right?
that wasn't what i was saying at all, i was saying that by OP logic it's a ripoff of castlevania.
P.S. they both have apples that fall to the ground when you throw them... THEY ARE RIPoFF OF GRAVITY AND NEWTON!!!

Was it really necessary to bump this thread?
