i just decided that in my new world, in which i spawned in a beautiful gulf, i will make an oil-rig inspired house.
my current ideas are:
-using either brick or smoothstone (opinions?) for the main supporting pylons
-making the upper deck out of black wool, with yellow and white wool markings
-on top of the control building, putting antenae made of fenceposts with redstone torches on top
-using redstone torches for other markings, like corners, etc
-tipping the big pipe that sticks out with flaming nethrrack instead of a torch
any other ideas would be great
i do plan on putting several decks below the surface deck, all of which will be above water.
a mineshaft will run down one of the pylons to an under-ocean mine system (i think this is really neat :smile.gif: )
wow that is a nice idea, smooth stone for a new-aged look and brick if you want something rustic :biggrin.gif: pics when done, pl0x!
I was thinking the same thing about the rustic vs. modern look.. and i'll try to put up pics when it's done, but it might be a while (new world and i don't use inv. editors)
Here's a tip: use glowstone for lighting inside. Torches work outside, but glowstone gets rid of any "medieval" feeling inside.
Seems like a very interesting idea. Good luck to you.

good idea, if i put it in the cieling nobody will notice.
you're very right about the torches hah, i was worried about that
Use iron blocks... I know they are expensive, but they will make it look great.
i'll probably use iron for the interior, but on the outside it should look at least a little weathered... which is why i'm going with mostly smoothstone on the outside. i'll be sure to include pics of the interior chambers :]
May be a little difficult, but this may look really cool.
Make a loop with pistons, and fill it with a dark material (Black wool, etc.)
Then, use the pistons to push the (Black Wool), and have part of the "Drill" made of glass, so it looks like its "pumping." Then you can make a hiddent part and send the wool back down to be "Repumped"
Confusing, I know. But heres a small diagram that will hopefully make a little more sense.
:Portabella::opblock:
= Outside Material = Wool/"oil" = Piston =Glass (Clearly)
Im not a redstone person, but just wire these pistons to a clock, and your probably good to go. This is the least technical i could think of. Its just one of those "Ideas" we all have. Unsure if it will work or not. So, good luck on this...

He can use an 8-clock
A guy made a lighthouse with one. He could learn a few things from that guy.
Modern pylons are made of metal, so iron blocks if you can afford that or you don't get them legitly, or smooth stone. Maybe some colored wool to simulate paint.

awesome idea, but i don't think i could pull it off.
also, this is more of a house, and less of a setpiece. i'm trying to monopolize the interior for living in.
but i do really like it.. maybe if i have the time i'll add it later.

Btw are you gathering these materials or using an inventory editor

gathering, so it might take a while :\

good one.
if i put it at the bottom of the pylons, it'll look like growth from the water!

Maybe a little overboard, but I chuckled because this is what I saw in this thread.
I wish I was in this :C
