Putting fins on with this looks retarded (They're sideways, not up and down). More like an on top beard.
This makes me want to put the blocks lengthwise, but this makes the bottom and top 'lines' of either dark or colour go stripey instead.
So.. dunno. Still say it's a fish though.
Here's the fish with the fins where they 'logically' make sense, ie: the fish body fits into the hole in the texture. Personally, totally stupid and probably wrong. But I'm 99% sure the body is right.:
A thought occured. Slightly less stupid:
Note that I'm still not using the 3 black tiny rectangles (2x1 each) or 2 of the fin textures. Pretty sure one is a side fin, the other the dorsal, but trying to work out how and where.
Note: every single "silverfish" model so far models the smaller sections of the model as a tiny section between the large sections. Wtf are these people using to texture the top and bottom of their models?
Yes, a silverfish is an insect. Just like an earwig is not a hairpiece for your external auditory organs, the name of this item does not directly transfer across to a dictionary!
I cannot see anyway for this to be an insect. One: Silverfish have no discernible eyes, this clearly does.
The only texture on here that COULD be legs is the black rectangles, which would make the legs teeny tiny and useless. And also the wrong colour for a silverfish.
There is nothing in the texture for antenae, one of the defining features of the insect.
The body has a clearly defined lateral line and underside shading, which is formed logically from the texture pack as:
[Space] - Top - Bottom - [Space]
LeftSide - Front - RightSide - Back

Heh. A ghast isn't a real creature. So Notch had the freedom to make a ghast look like anything he wanted. However, a silverfish is in fact a bug. Assuming the model is correct, he made the body look segmented so it looks more insect-like, even including insect-looking eyes. I'm sure if he were to make an actual fish, he would make it look more agile and not bug-like.
As for the "silverFISH" debate. It's like using a different model for a pig. A pig is a pig. A pig is a real animal. So there is a reference to that in real life, just as there is a silverfish. It's clearly a bug. Unless he calls it a "silver fish", stating that there is a fish that is silver.
Yes, silverfish is a bug in real life, but minecraft isn't real life. It might well be a fish, because its name is silverFISH. Who knows. We'll find out when 1.8 is released.
IT IS A F&*$%NG FISH IT IS NOT A "silverfish" BUG IT IS A FISH THAT IS SILVER AKA THE NEW WATER MOB. sorry for the yelling but i am tired of all you retards saying its a silverfish but it is a fish thats silver

You do realize that while half of the people agree with you the other half think you are the one who is a retard for thinking a silverfish is actually a fish rather than a bug.
I'm not sure I see the whole point to this argument since there are unused textures already. Maybe this is the texture of a mob they abandoned awhile ago and just put it in there to screw with people or to give modders something to mess with.
However I personally agree with the "it's a bug" side. The fact that "fish" is in the name doesn't necessarily mean anything, but maybe I'm wrong.
Silverfish is an insect. Look it up, I'm not kidding.
That's not what we're debating here. Just because Notch wrote "silverfish" as one word in the .jar file doesn't necessarily mean he didn't mean it to be read as two words "Silver Fish".
We can't say what it is at this point, and it's perfectly possible to be either (the OP's model looks like it could go either way). But I'm more inclined to believe that Notch would add a fish to the game, rather than a wood eating insect. I mean, what kind of gameplay benefit would we get from that?

2) The Silverfish in real life is a bug.
The Sun rises in the North! Now these points of data make a beautiful line...

Lepisma saccharina, frequently called silverfish, fishmoths, carpet sharks or paramites, are small, wingless insects...
Wikipedia says otherwise.
Seriously though, I'm still not sure whether this is meant to be a silverfish or a silver fish.

Its not a fish, the fish is called a Silver fish. But the species isn't Silverfish.
