since the 1.7 update, "sliverfish" were added to the mob file of minecraft. I personnally didnt even know what sliverfish were in real life, so i looked it up.
Silverfish are small, wingless insects that are often found in dark areas in buildings. They are infamous for damaging wood and paper-based products
this could be very bad for people who build wooden houses and structures.
That's just assuming that Minecraft silverfish behave like the real-life insect. Another possibility is that Notch is going to add an aquatic mob that is a silver-colored fish. He has mentioned adding fish to the game before.

It's not an optical illusion, it just looks like one.

Relax, we don't know what these silverfish will do yet, nor do we know whether they'll be scrapped. I'm sure that if they eat wood, they'll give us a way to repel them (or maybe we'll have to build walls to keep them out).
That's diffrent. Creepers don't do so bad damage(3x3 blocks explosion) And ghasts do even smaller (2x2 Note:These are not exact numbers)
Silverfish could probably eat MUCH more and it would be too hard to stop 'em. You can avoid creepers and ghasts do so little damage. And also Silverfish could probably ruin your house before it would even see you.(Creepers only blow up when you are too close)
And also I'm a alpha player :tongue.gif: And I had an acoount here but it got somehow removed when the forums updated.
******** they don't I've seen creepers make 3 x 8 craters in the ground. That was just one of them. If there was more of them to explode in said crater then it quickly became 6 x 10. The explosion varies on the creeper and the durability of the blocks, aka blast resistance.
O'rly? If you wrap the sections of the skin around cubes as it usually works for MC's skins (2 squares up for top and bottom, 4 squares down for side, front, side, back) you will see some kind of cone made out of cubes of different sizes, exactly how a silverfish bug would look in MC, not to mention there are no fins in that skin.
If that's a fish, it's the most bug-looking fish we had ever seen.
Next mob texture will be named seahorse.png so everybody will think it's an horse who lives in the sea.

They haven't been added to the game yet, but there's a file in the minecraft.jar that is a texture for a mob named "silverfish.png"
