I, personally, think you just took the red herring much farther. Not confirmed that it's a red herring, but it was said to be SCARY. Maybe I'm not seeing the scary part, but maybe the employee just thought it was scary. Good work, though, you deserve a medal or something.
I don't know how to suggest this without sounding sexist. But didn't the "scary" comment originate with the significant other of Jeb or Notch? I could swear this is true. Females tend to find insects a lot scarier, and that thing does look like it'd be pretty awful to find scurrying in a cave.
Thank you for doing this, it was really interesting to see it like that. I hope it can burrow into houses by eating wood, that'd be awesome. It wouldn't hurt the creative crowd too much if it only did it in one block increments, and creative mode will be returning soon.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My Grandmother passed away on Sunday, the 7th of August, 2011. I am taking an extended leave of absence in light of this. My apologies.

Haha, I wanted to say this. I probally would crap myself if I was in a cave or something and it scurried along, but then it would just be normal. I used to be acrophobic to smaller spiders, but then I got used to it. (Pfft, that last sentence didn't need to be there.)

Imagine this thing comes at you running twice as fast as normal mobs and screeching out of the darkness right as you're mining a juicy ore vein.
You can tell that it's fake.
1. There is no background
2. Why would Notch add stupid insects
3. They don't add to the Minecraft experience.
Speaking of experience, does anyone know what month the adventure update is coming?
Have you looked in your minecraft.jar? the skins are there there probobly gunna be added in 1.8.
something completly random, probobly consisting of the word epic at least one. Examples, "Epicness in a can" "Wall o' epic" "Epic episode III, the return of Epic" etc.

Now, this I am uncertain of, but to me it sort of looks like a Shrimp, a gray shrimp to be exact. And if you do not know this, well shrimp are not a fish, but they still live underwater, so I quess they could be considered a fish because they are marine life.

That is a gray shrimp, my friend.
Why are people still debating what it is? Its an insect, plain and simple.

Dude, nobody has confirmed that it is an insect, so you can shut the hole in your face, and mind your own business if you have nothing good to say. And to answer your question, I am debating this because a while ago, notch mentioned that there is going to be more underwater content, other than squids in minecraft.

The png file states it as Silverfish. Silverfish is a form of insect, I don't need anyone's confirmation on fact. One of your fellow forum peers in this very thread recreated a mock up image of how it'll look in game.
What confirmation do you need? Notch ringing your front door bell and telling you face to face?
Also the notch tweet about sea life has nothing to do with this, stop being simpleminded. There is no minding of business on a public forum by the way.

well, this thing is dissappointing.... I expecting something... not lame... haha
I guess it could be cool if the AI is good enough... like swaming the player or something... but I swear if they eat all the wood and crap... Ill be pissed....
I believe this mock-up has one error: Y'know those rectangles lining its spine? They should be flipped so that they are horizontal, and look more like the scales on the insect. Other than that, this is one of the best mock-ups I've seen so far.
Oh gosh... I'm utterly terrified of silverfish despite their seemingly harmless nature. I'd prefer 30 creepers to 1 silverfish. I was hoping they'd implement actual fish into the sea since there's no animation to match the raw fish.
They actually look good! They look so good I'm itching to squish them. I like their serrated appearance. With all the blockiness in the game, this rather frail thing looks somehow different. Whose idea was it?
Hmm... To be honest I was expecting it to be a silver fish rather than the insect. The model doesn't really look like either, though.
Hmm, I think the jury is still out on this one. :wink.gif:

Anyways thanks for making this post because I never would have known if you hadn't. (Well maybe when notch revealed them but not until then.)

A silverfish is a insect that is often found eating books.

Well, the .png is called 'silverfish.png'.
We have seen the model of it in-game. It looks like the insect.
And, a silverfish is an insect. Try googling 'silverfish', and see what you find.
Your "proof" is a 4 month old vague sentence that Notch wrote.
If it's like normal enemy mobs it'll be a serious danger as it could come through gaps at you unlike all the ones we have now.
