Stuff doesn't belong on the wiki unless it is either sourced or researched rigorously. Anything else that is just speculation does not belong on there, unless it includes in big shiny letters "Speculation"
Now can we please bring this back on topic and try and make rational, logical arguments for what silverfish.png represents?
(No, "SILVERFISH IS A REAL INSECT!!!1ONE" is neither rational nor logical)
An example of a rational argument is:
If it were an insect, the design of any leg pieces would be roughly symmetrical. Seeing as there is no symmetrical 'weird bits' we are forced to assume that the 'weird bits' are largely asymmetrical and since are not legs. A single median line (Center based) approach would suit them far better.
An example of a logical rebuttal (which I am making up for the purposes of illustration) would be:
Not so! If you fold it into a box thusly ([Picture of texture blown up with the net of a box drawn on it]) then you can make rectangles that have symmetrical textures down the sides!
It seems everybody has been wondering about the possible introduction of this particular mob...
Hopefully they'll also have some other traits of the real insect besides eating wood. Small, so only one block high. Can't climb worth crap, so they'd take a long time to be able to get up past one block. (Would take multiple jumps with a small chance to get up anywhere.) And only spawn near sources of water away from light.
So if the game ones have any other traits like real ones besides eating wood and paper I'd expect that having a non-wood 1 block high foundation for any wooden buildings and not building near water would keep problems from these insects at bay. I'd also expect a 1 or 2 hit kill like the chicken, but they'd be as fast as the player so killing them when they run away would be difficult.
The wiki is pure conjecture on the part of fans. It doesn't know anything more than we do. And as it said, Notch has "hinted" at it and Jeb has outright said that he thinks it's a bad idea.
You can tell that it's fake.
1. There is no background
2. Why would Notch add stupid insects
3. They don't add to the Minecraft experience.
Speaking of experience, does anyone know what month the adventure update is coming?
I hope you are a troll because you sound ridiculous
Not technically, exactly. Spiders are not insects. It's fun to learn things. I know I'd be happy to learn a spider was an arachnid and not an insect if I were learning it for the first time today.
Because with people just assuming anything anyone ever writes is fact, then we end up with way too much stupid, way too much conjecture and generally a ****-poor community, in which nothing is worth reading because it's all stupid rumours. This is why we can't have nice things.
And yes, we all know that a silverfish is an insect. Just like we all know Silver is also a colour, and a fish is a type of animal.
Look in minecraft.jar in the mobs folder, and you will see there is a silverfish skin.I find the model to be accurate, and of course it's not in game,it's like some kind of simulation of what it would look like.
Anyways, nice work,I couldnt figure what these things would look like.
*facepalm* Silverfish are insects, I believe. And yes, they're going to be added I'm pretty sure.
Yes, a silverfish is an insect.
IRL, a silverfish is a wingless insect that is infamous for damaging wood and paper products. - Minecraftwiki
Huzzah. Now, do some research, some intelligent guessing, and realise that:
1: The wiki was edited by a 12 year old
2: The wiki is only 'knowledge' put there by whoever can be stuffed
3: The wiki on 'new' content is notoriously wrong.

The model in the OP is completely wrong. It isn't segmented like that at all. (If it turns out it is, I will eat my hat on youtube) The smaller pieces in the op's picture are the top and bottom of the bigger pieces.
EVERYONE:
The name of the file is no indicator as to what type of creature it is, it might just be a hint. There is also a file called "Sprites.png" Clearly they are all different types of SPIRIT!
Stop just blindly screaming that a silverfish.png file has to be the insect of the same name. Otherwise one of the 7 deadly sins is a slow moving, tree dwelling animal. Another is a group of lions.

look, the file is in the mob folder in the minecraft jar. like all mobs it is a 2d picture. minecraft takes the picture and convert's it into a 3d model. there is no model of the silverfish, so this man(or woman) created a model of it, check the wiki!
Then you, sir, are a bounder and a cad.

God I hope they don't eat wood. But I suppose that would make sense....guess I get to become a wild bug squisher in 1.8.
