It shows repeaters not needing power directly pointing into them, but he has not approached us, the redstone users, about this update.
I feel that he should not go ahead with this "patch" and instead, release a new type of repeater under a new ID so that does not break hundreds of hours of work that I, and many other minecraft players have put into redstone.
Please post your opinions on this, as i believe most people would be against it.
If this update go's ahead, 90% of my circuits will break, and i wont be happy.
I'm an admitted redstone novice, but I don't see how this would break circuits. It looks to me like all it does is allow more compact redstone setups? if circuits already have to be bigger to work, then it doesn't seem like allowing smaller ones would break anything. But then as I said I'm a novice with the stuff so maybe I'm just not seeing the issue.

This is how repeaters currently work. Look closer. The one that's off is pointing in the wrong direction.
*edit: This has more to do with how redstone behaves when connected.

I don't know if you noticed but the circuit you posted is not exactly the same as the one Jens posted. So here's what the circuit in the original picture looks like in 1.6:
So yea, it would seem that the only change is Redstone will now recognize a repeater as something it can connect to, so it turns the way it would turn if the repeater were just Redstone dust. Frankly that seems like the way it should have been in the first place.
Good luck with that one. Honestly though, I can't see how this will break anything. If the redstone is in a position to connect with the repeater, then that repeater likely wasn't being used. I can't be 100% sure, so feel free to post an example.
I wasn't aware of the update to repeaters until I saw this petition, but now I support the update wholeheartedly. I hate having to "trail" redstone in order to get it to connect to my repeaters.
I have a few redstone creations, big and small, that will probably be broken by this.
I'll just refactor it. Problem solved.
I guess you are right there, and i understand i may of overdosed on the persentages of projects that would be broken, but my point still stands, and debugging would be a *****.
You would petition the further capability of smaller designs and more possibilities simply because you're?... lazy?
Using redstone is no lazy feat so I don't see how you would be bothered to make the necessary adjustments. Just rebuild it smaller so you can build more in the area or even generate something completely new.
I must be stupid.
I can make I'd guess moderate redstone devices.
I don't see how this change would break any redstone devices.
Please give me a case with screen shots (no texture pack please, I beg of you) where it would in fact break a device.
Well.... if that update goes through, then the countless hours I put into my keyboard marquee will be useless..... that actually might make me quit minecraft if that update happens....
The point is not "if the repeater was connected to it already it will still connect to it," it's that other things connected to the same wire, input side and output side, will now not connect to the wire if this update occurs!
Updating the current repeater is terrible idea. If it does happen it must be implemented as a new block
Oh I get it now, like repeater to one redstone to repeater. That redstone can go to a block/another repeater (even thought another repeated won't be broken now).
I see how this could be bad for a lot of people, but luckily it won't affect me :biggrin.gif:
I hate having to move all my wires or the repeaters to compensate for being direct line only... This will improve several of my redstone contraptions and break 0% of them.

the picture does not show this. where are you pulling this assertion from?

Look at the very top right of the picture. The one with the two repeaters going to two redstone.
Normally the redstone would look like a line --. But with this change, they are like how they are in the picture.

very annoying when creating decoders that stretch for more than 15 blocks.
but it would break this:
Which is the only reliable way to get 1-tick pulses I think.

This petition is going no where to say the least.
i wonder just how fast they would have to fix something like this to prevent these "but it breaks my stuff to do it correctly!!!" threads.
