Yes. If Notch decides to make DLCs cost money, you will have to pay for it and Alpha buyers won't.
First of all, nowhere have I seen an Alpha buyer gloating about the fact that they are getting free DLC. If they do, then they're arrogant pricks. No offense intended.
Secondly, Beta buyers, I have noticed you guys being extremely greedy. "Ohh, I bought this game so I deserve free DLC." Do you expect free DLC from other games? I highly doubt it. You already got 25% off the game itself so that should be reward enough.
Also, the whole "If I had found this game a <Insert menial stretch of time> sooner I would have been an Alpha buyer. This is so unfair." Life's unfair deal with it.
The only reason Alpha buyers might be getting free DLCs is because they were promised it in their terms of service. A clause that was taken out when the game went into Beta upon the advice of a legal professional.
I may be a Beta buyer, but even I understand this ****.
It's simple:
Alpha players helped more and supported Notch early on, so they get free content.
Beta players are still testers. but they didn't help reveal all the bugs in Alpha, and they got a more complete version of MC.
Notch didn't expect MC to become as popular as it is, so he changed the free content to only Alpha players, who helped more than us Beta players.
Anyways, if there's DLC, it probably won't cost that much, maybe $5-10. And if you can't buy that, then how the hell did you buy a computer and a $20 game?
This makes sense. They supported notch's product in it's early stages, I just wish i'd bought it before I left. That was when survival was first implemented.
Off Topic ish: Did MC become beta before or after the halloween update?
As long as I don't have to pay for bug fixes and further updates, I'm fine. I can buy expansions should I choose to. However, if I have to pay for bug fixes & further updates after the release, I'm going to be very upset.
I would've surely bought in in Alpha, no second thought. However, this game isn't advertised too well, and I never heard of it.
every body will get all bug fixes free. however, beta players still have to pay for dlc(probably(if there is any))
dont whine at the alpha players. whine at notch. It's his fault. we had nothing to do with it. it's not like he held a vote"do you guys want special priveleges?yes/no" he is making the game. He can do what he wants. technically you haven't bought the game, just preordered it. as a preorder bonus, you get to play the current version in development.
Notch decided to do give us free dlcs. He said DlCs might cost money. He also said they would probably be 5$ if they do cost money. I can understand why you guys are mad but that doesn't give you guys the right to start a thread that's starting flame wars. Notch did't cause a rift in the community you guys did.
This was announced before the game went to 'Beta'... People making a fuss that they get DLC for free are just being big-headed about it. Who cares if people bought it first?
Free future updates were a thank-you from Mojang for helping them get started, really. Might seem unfair but it's what Notch stated a while ago, and nobody kicked up a fuss asking for it.
Stop making these freaking threads, they're completely stupid. Alpha buyers and Notch don't give two shits about Beta buyers and everyone knows it.
Give up.
To anyone without eyes who has failed to see the smug users, as they've been called, or the "noble" alpha users that other people seem to be talking about... well i think this is what Beta users are really bitter about.
Yep. We have the legal right to this content for free.
Actually, Beta testers also have a chance of getting the content free. Notch actually said that beta buyers were no longer guaranteed to get the content for free. Ergo, there is still a chance we can get free content. Depends on how Notch feels at the time. Personally, I really don't care. If I don't get the updates, I'll buy them. It isn't as if they are going to cost extreme amounts of money. I'd say about $10 max. What's the big deal?
It's not our fault we bought the damn game before you did, and we didn't whine to Notch to give us special treatment, it was HIS DECISION!
Plus, stop being so freaking greedy and pay for the DLC like you would for any other game, Notch said that he's going to do DLC the right way, UNLIKE CoD and such.
I think DLCs are going to be like 1.8 - size updates that you're going to need to pay for.
When I bought the game in Beta, there was no clause in the agreement saying that I would get all future DLC for free. So I'm having a hard time seeing how not getting future DLC for free is somehow unfair, unjust, etc.
If you're having a hard time understanding this, think of it this way: Alpha users struggled through a lot of problems that Beta users didn't have to go through. Consider the free DLC a thank you to them.
But the bottom line is that we as Beta users are getting exactly what we paid for and exactly what Notch agreed to give us. End of story.
By the way, for those of you complaining about this not being fair, I have something to tell you: life is not fair. This is why you usually only hear children complaining about something not being fair--because they haven't yet learned this universal truth.
If I knew Google was going to be so huge, I would have invested in them while they were just getting started! It's not fair! I should be getting millions of dollars too! Waaaaa!
Who do ****ing NEED to care about such stuff!? By DLC you mean downloadable content right? well and what sort of DLC might i ask? i have seen about 10 posts on the alpha "problem" and each and ever post have never been able to fully protect their argument. im a beta buyer myself and i DONT care. what does it matter? you see over 100 games out there that rewards its alpha and beta players (mostly alpha) and i dont see the big problem. so tell me what is the big problem? they bought the game early, helped notch by reporting bugs and such and making the game better for us beta players! if the alpha players hadnt been there most beta players would not have heard of the game. who do you think spread the word huh? the alpha players! who do you think helped making the game better so it would get more people? the alpha players. and who cares about DLC anyway!? i know a ton of folks who still play classic! if i at least dont have to buy the game itself again im happy. as long as it dont become one of those pay every two months except the alpha players im happy!
and for those who are to lazy to read all of this (cus i know i wouldnt bothered) just screw every reasonable and unreasonable word i have written and continue playing minecraft, live life, be well and stop complaining! (again for those who didnt care reading, I AM A BETA PLAYER!)

Exactly this. Do you complain all the drinks are gone because you were late to the party? Be glad he made the game and isn't providing it at $60 a copy, seriously. I'm an Alpha Buyer, and I honestly don't care.
We're all playing minecraft, that's what matters. Do you really think DLC will cost just as much as the game itself? You can probably find a dollar and pay DLC with that. Stop complaining.
/facepalm the reason we get special treatment is because we bought the game when it wasnt popular there wasnt as man LP's there wasnt any of the big stuff we have now. We supported notch before it got big the beta ppl supporting him when he got big.

Now, I'm afraid theres nothing you can do about it. I agree with you, it's a little unfair, but you can't do anything about it. Whining won't help.
This image conveys what I'm trying to say:

i wish this forum had a LIKE button...
That's like going to a gamestop and demanding the map packs for pre-ordering the game for free because you didn't know about the game.
A.k.a. you missed out on a sale don't go to the store and demand the lower price because you got there late.
Btw I got Alpha and you didn't *gloat gloat gloat*
