It's not the fact that the alpha buyers get the cool stuff for free that bothers me. It's that they go all "LOLOLOLOL WE GOT THE GAME BEFORE YOU AND IT MAKES US INHERENTLY SUPERIOR, U JELLY" that bothers me.

I'm alpha, and I didn't even know until now I was getting DLC for free.
But yeah, um, I haven't actually SEEN that many gloaty posts, and this is the first moany post I've seen.
So why is everyone crying over some money or raging at the cryers?
Why does this stupid argument come up so commonly? It's been explained to death every time.
Notch originally had the website and terms and conditions state that if you purchased the game you would not have to pay again for future content. It said that if you purchased it then, you got all future content for free.
After the company was established, and he had the money to get lawyers, and really set up for business, they discussed it with him and told him he really shouldn't do that.
Due to how these terms and things work, he can't just remove rights from them for people who agreed under the old terms. He cannot just decide to not follow through. Thus instead he changed the terms for future purchases.
You people make it out as if he sat everyone down way after beta ended, called all the alpha players to the front, and gave them special gifts and told them how wonderful they are while shunning everyone else. This is the furthest thing from the truth. It all boils down to alpha players having agreed to one set of terms while you agreed to another.
Furthermore, it has never been explicitly stated that you will have to pay more for anything. He has not said specifically that he will charge for anything. The change to the terms was only done to give him the CHOICE to charge if he wanted to do so. With the old terms he had no choice to charge. Now he has the choice to charge, but he also has the choice to give updates free as well.
Finally, those people complaining are acting spoiled. While it wasn't intentionally given to the alpha players, they did end up getting a benefit. However they also put out the most risk. Had minecraft bombed and Notch given up on it in September, they'd have rights to all versions of the game which consist of half of one. Every one of you would have pointed and laughed at them for making a terrible investment. Soon as it works out for them though you're all complaining and whining that you deserve the same things.
Do you also complain that you don't get preorder bonuses for other games? That you don't get the nifty collectors edition items or additions that others do because you weren't lucky enough to know they existed before they were gone? These types of things are made on purpose. It's because early adopters are the most beneficial to deciding success levels and funding the endeavor.
Well, alpha and beta buyers get all the updates after full release without extra payment, it's just those dlc that beta buyers will have to pay. This Dlc will probably be stand alone packs, so they won't break the game and you can still play smp with everyone, so there's noreason to worry about that. That's if they ever come out, I mean Notch could get lazy and never make any, or he gets run over by a car tomorrow and we get stuck with 1.5 forever XD
But if this discussion is something about the "fairness of life" than please continue, but leave me out of it
You're just jealous. Us Alpha buyers basically funded the development of Minecraft, without us, the would be no Minecraft Beta. We actualy whine just as much (or even less) as anyone else. It wasn't our decision to make the DLCs free for us. If you wan't to blame someone, blame Mojang you idiot.
You Alpha buyers funded the development of Minecraft?? Us Indev buyers helped him more. Back in the old days there was no fancy Alpha, there was only creative and indev. Oh indev what do I miss your fancy black lighting bugs, those small island and that fancy water (Indev water > Beta water). People complaining that lava ruined their wooden houses, back in the old days there were Skeletons with fire arrows.
Dont feel yourself better just because you bought during Alpha, indev-buyers are way more awesome :wink.gif:
Yep, pretty much. And in fact, anyone who buys the game before it's officially released is funding the development of Minecraft.
Oh look, this thread again. I am compelled to point out something that everyone seems to miss every time.
You see that little clause on this page? The one that says "when you buy the game, you're paying for the game as it is right now"?
There was less game in Alpha than there is now. Thus, Alphas bought less game than Betas. We paid less because we bought less. You still got a discount on the full game. People who buy it after 11/11/11 will pay even more than Betas. You will have your time to gloat and feel superior.
The one and only reason Beta people are not promised all future content free is because the legal department was terrified of the clause. You agreed to different terms than we did, that's all there is to it. You missed the special edition sale, I'm sorry. They're all out of Alpha. You did, however, catch a different "limited time only!!" sale. Limited time means limited time. It means if you miss the offer, you don't get it unless someone else is selling theirs.
Note that I say you are not promised this hypothetical future content. This is not the same as saying you will not get it. For all we know, Notch could release all expansion content for free. It is, after all, their right to choose how much to charge for something. It's one of those things for which we will have to wait and see.

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. (Source)
Anything built within Minecraft, using only Minecraft, without using bugs, is legit.
If you don't want to build mob traps, that's fine. Just don't tell us it's cheating.
I'm an alpha user here and I'm not the type to rub it in people's faces but if you didn't get the game before beta then that really is your fault. I stumbled upon the game because it was a popular video on youtube.

Oh dear, I'm terrible at tennis. Will there be a court available for badminton? I will be sure to bring my diamond-encrusted obsidian shuttlecocks.

The only thing I would like to see is for beta players to have the option to purchase an alpha account. Another twenty dollars, fifty dollars, whatever. It would be nice for those who desire, to have the satisfaction of mind. As to the ridiculous assertions made by Sordid_Dreams, I will not address them. The bland stylistic usage of the word sordid will say enough of his general character. Thanks man, for furthering that kind of nonsense, carrying on the ******* prose of the nineteenth century, well into the present.
Pick up a proficient author, and discard your nubile state.
It sucks that you didn't heard of the game or didn't have the money to buy the game before december the 20th, but that's life for ya. And guess what; life isn't fair. You can't go "Time out! No fair; I didn't knew about that! Do that again for me please." everytime you miss out on a good deal. Next thing you know, the people who'll buy the game on official release will ***** about not getting the same discount as the alpha/beta people did…
I think, at the time of Beta, Notch had discovered what a terrible buisness blunder he made with the alpha purchase. Thus he changed it to a more sensible model. It is very hard to make money on something you promised to give away for free. Yes, alpha players will piggyback on beta players. Yes, it is not fair. However, everyone should have gotten the beta style purchase, because without that, Minecraft development will cease shortly after 11/11/11.
Honestly, half of this thread makes no sense to me at all, then again I probably just need some sleep. I bought my pre-order long before survival was even really mentioned all that much. I didn't expect much in return for my money, it was more of a thank you for Notch for Sucking me and my friends into that fantastic gravity well of the Black Hole known as Minecraft. I thought the guy deserved some of my cash for his fabulous work. Even if I bought it now and I maybe had to pay a little extra later on, I still would and I'd be happy to do so.
I've played Oblivion for a while, I still bought the DLC and it was worth the experiences that I had while playing them. I've been in the modding community and the people there are fantastic, they've managed to keep the game going far longer than most games last between their next installments. If minecraft was by some big company most people would scramble to cash in to get their fix of new content from the DLC (That is a generalisation, try not to take offense c: ).
Just because there might be DLC doesn't mean that the modders will be put out, there will always be someone to improve on the features of everything. <3
Ironic, you talk about whiny little alpha players, when in fact, YOU are the one whining your little butt off. During Alpha, the content was no where near Beta. That's why we paid less AT THE TIME. When beta came out, there was loads more content, thus raising the price. Besides, atleast your PAYING AT A DISCOUNT PRICE.When the game is released it will be 20$.Be glad, not mad. You even got stinking beta players supporting the alpha's side. Repeating someone's post from above...STOP CRYING CAUSE YOU DIDN'T GOOGLE STOCKS WOULD SKYROCKET! Is basically what your doing.
We got this for supporting notch from the beggining and not waiting for the game to be popular like has already been said in the first page.
we did not knew we'd get these speacial features when we bought. if someone decides to give someone a present for being friends for a while now, what the, **** you want to do about it!?
I concur! I doubt we shall play tennis or badminton at all during the daay as we shall possibly be more occupied with treating our Beta butlers poorly!
SCOFF ;D
But of course, old chap! How else would they know to properly valet the minecart pigs? Why, the last time I treated my butler with a mite of respect, he had the gall to neglect filing my poor pig's nails. I couldn't possibly be seen in public with such an unkempt vehicle. The nerve!

I quite fancy a good cart. How much are they on the market? 20$ 15$? Whichever one, I suppose. It's the same thing in the long run, if you ask me.

Seriously, this is looking like a rehash of that entire thread.
