I was just curious if it was random or it just hits the highest point. If it were to hit the highest point, I would like to build a lightning tower.
I had to rebuild the forest around my home twice, it's so hard stopping the fires in time, regardless of it raining, or my magic OP powers of Doomy-goodness. I love thunderstorms (as a child, I was an aspiring Meteorologist... and kinda still am) but it's frustrating to see handiwork destroyed in seconds if anything is wood/flammable in general.
I'm going to guess, but it's only a guess, that it's random and not highest point. If it was highest point, say, in a given chunk, it would be hitting mainly trees, and not be making pigs into pigmen or supercharging creepers. (I saw the first one I had seen just this evening, it was very cool!)
Do I actually know? No. But this is the internet, you want facts??
I can confirm that it, at the very least, does not exclusively strike the highest point. I witnessed a sheep being struck down in its prime, with tall walls and buildings close by. Maybe it's weighted, but it's not exclusive.
I see. Well, is there any way to stop lightning with magical OP powers? I was told something once but it has slipped my mind, so I definitely know there is a command to stop all fires in the vicinity.
I believe the command you are thinking of is the option to turn fire spread off which does what it says, doesn't let fires spread to other blocks.
Well I most certainly need that command now. In a retard moment I put Netherack too close to my tree house.. and one block got set on fire before I panicked and D/ced.
