I'm against adf.ly because 90% of the time, people use it to link to stuff they didn't even make. Like random youtube videos or something like that.

I'm against adf.ly because it's the scummiest bad internet mojo I've ever Goddam seen. I wish there was a legitimate service which did the same function using advertisers that aren't probably tied in with organized crime in Eastern Europe.
These popup programs in mods that force people to basically donate are in my opinion, guilty of making profit through the use of minecraft. This is what Notch wanted to prevent through the use of his modding api. Your modders are basically forcing you to pay for their mods with your difficulty of clicking through popups.
With that being said, I believe a modder should be able to ask for donations, something that is freely optional by the user as a gesture of thanks and goodwill. Forcing it on a user however is just wrong and petty and if they wanted to make money for their work they should maybe try other methods... like finding a job.
Then you get no mods. You ****ing like that?
God the you people who disagree with this are idiots, but probably you are young and no idea what work is. Modding takes time, a lot of time, and skill in Java. After spending hours making something only to get flamed on it's lack of updates and idiots begging for more features, I honestly couldn't stand it. I'm proud of modders who constantly provide their mods - I don't expect up-to-date updates to Minecrafts, but at least I understand why.
It's like greifing. Working on something for days only for some idiot to destroy it? How could that make you feel?
I'm probably older than both of your parents. We'll who knows how old your dad is, your mom doesn't even know which guy it was she ****ed... so its a bit hard to come to that conclusion.
Edit: See its fun making assumptions about people you know nothing about over the internet, I can do it too!
My point is, using this adf.ly crap forces people to make payments through the use of forced popups. There is a difference between being forced to pay someone for their hard work than rewarding someone for their hard work. A forced donation is not a donation, its a payment, and this is the kind of crap Notch is trying to prevent being done with the game he and Jens spent so much time working on.
I never said I wouldn't donate to someone for their hard work. I just wont pay to play your 3rd party DLC.
It's 5 seconds if you want to download someone's work for free. 5 seconds and how often do you re-download the mod? I'm completely fine with waiting 5 seconds 3 times a month if it means the developers can make a few pennies from it.
Um, nobody here is paying for mods even with adf.ly. They get the mod for free, and the developers are compensated a very, very small amount.
And to all the people complaining about waiting 5 seconds for a download; Your time isn't that valuable. Get over yourselves.
If the devs are getting money then they get paid in some form or another, which if that's the route they wish to take then fine but they still get paid. Personally I would rather donate or pay for the mod if I used one. As for the ads, they do get annoying to the point where sometimes I can never actually get to the download because the ads kept popping up instead, this is why I installed Adblock.
As for making comments on peoples time, people have different values and opinions and it is neither my place, your place or anyone elses place to demand they do what others want or prefer. Choice is just that.
Ever heard the expression "time is money"? I'm not going to support any mod that asks me to waste 5 seconds of my time. I mean really... sit there and count to yourself... 1:1000, 2:1000, 3:1000, 4:1000, 5:1000..... Thats a long time to have to wait for page to load that I have no interest in anyways.
If a modder wants money, just get a paypal donation button and i'll gladly donate if I love the mod. They are more legit, plus they get way more than they would for adf.ly because isn't it like 50,000 visits is $10 or some ridiculous amount like that?

That doesn't work because the majority of people who play Minecraft are children, and can't donate on their own, whereas they can wait for 5 seconds.

That really is not a long time to wait. I cannot believe that people are actually using this excuse. The mod developers spend TONS of time working on these mods so you can enjoy them for free. The LEAST you can do is spend 5 seconds staring at your monitor before downloading it.
This isn't paying them for their work, this is letting them get a nice lunch or something. It isn't worth it in so many cases and wastes time, forcing parment is not a good method for your mod to become successful (because essentially that is what it is).
So each person who downloads a mod from an adf.ly links nets the modder $0.0025.
Any modder who does this is an idiot. I'd donate at least a dollar which is 400 times the amount they'd get from me if they would just use a paypal donation button.

Ever heard the expression "time is money"? I'm not going to support any whining children that asks me to waste so much of my time. I mean really, sit there and count to yourself... 1:1000, 2:1000, 3:1000, ..., 18000:1000. To sit there and code for people that will just whine about minor bugs and blame me for Notch not supporting outdated server builds anyways.
I mean for ****s sake, I make my mod for myself, as does just about every other mod developer. Nobody is in it for the money. It's just nice after tearing out your hair about <obscure VM error> for hours to not only play your mod, but see a couple bucks in your paypal at the end of the month. We aren't getting rich here.

Not everyone on this forum has the capacity to donate. This method means everyone that enjoys the mod can contribute something back to the developer.
In a game where you probably waste ridiculous amounts of time, you cannot spend 5 seconds waiting to download a free mod?
This. It's completely justifiable.

Love this "pay for mods" crap on this thread after reading all the "never pay for mods" crap over the last few days.
Make your mind up people.

^ This is my point pretty much.
It pays the mod maker $0.004. That means, for every 3 clicks, they get 1 cent.
Its not much of a problem, and it keeps them motivated to create more mods with higher quality.
