adf.ly might be a bit excessive, but I despise the person who insults me for trying to make a little money for all my efforts. That being said, keep it to something unintrusive, like Google AdSense.
Everyone opposed to it is reading too much into it.
They can add a step between their download and the link and make half a penny.
What's wrong with that?
You lose maybe 3 seconds of your time and they get a little bit out of working so hard.
They don't think of you as slaves when they add that link, and they're not trying to buy out Notch.
They're just trying to make the most of their work.
God the you people who disagree with this are idiots, but probably you are young and no idea what work is.
And you're probably too young (or played **** games) to know that mods existed for like 20 years without having to resort to this sort of crap
People should make mods of things they want to see in the game, not to make money. Give me a ****ing break, adding unicorns, rocket launchers, girlfriends, etc. to Minecraft and expecting to be paid for your time? That's like me taking a dump and then charging the city for accepting my solids.

They should probably try to make the most of their work by accepting donations and not continuing to mod if they are so poor that they cannot afford to have any hobbies, rather than using an ad site that is well known to open your anus to all sorts of attacks.

You're reading too much into it right there. They don't think to themself,
"I can't make any money like a normal person. I'm going to use my mod to make money."
Yes, Steven, but back then you didn't have websites that could provide revenue. Now people are saying "Well, I'm putting my time into this, and I like doing this, but" and here's the thing, "this won't be paying my rent/bills/tuition, etc."
If you think it's wrong for people to get paid (which requires that there's a customer which there ISN'T- the downloader still gets the mod for FREE and they should be grateful) for their "crap" work, then tell me this: why would you click the link if it was for something crappy? If people didn't want rocket launchers, they wouldn't click the link.
Is it not a donation? Are you giving them your money for a mod? No. You have to wait five seconds. I hate using the word grateful, but listen:
People are putting their effort into a game.
They decided they wanted more.
They modded it.
Then they released it for EVERYONE to download it.
Now, they're asking for five seconds of your time so they can earn less than a cent. If you're mad at that, then don't download mods.
I just wrote a blog about this whole ordeal, so if you think that being able to read my blog that took hours to write and design altogether isn't worth five seconds, then please don't click the signature.
However, if you don't think that I'm a slave-driving theif then go right ahead.
I really find it super annoying that everyone uses this. I don't support adfly or anything like that. I enjoy making my textures as a hobby and not as something that I should be paid for. Not only does adfly shove ads into your face, they also get like 90% of the profit. I don't see why people (especially texture pack makers and modders) want to use it. It's annoying as hell.
Oh, I'm sorry, are you annoyed at wasting five seconds of your time to help out a mod/texture pack/map maker who has spent literally solid months working on their project just so other whiners can complain about wasting five seconds?
Can't you use 1 second of your life to click again?
I feel that, if you're gonna use the pack/ mod/ whatever, you should give a fraction of a cent (that isn't even from your pocket) to the creator. They deserve it.
Don't be ungrateful. These modders and map makers spend hours working on these mods for you. Each ad view gets them a half a cent. And you have to wait five bloody seconds, and then you get your precious mods.
But to be honest, you don't deserve them. You wouldn't understand that some of these modders have part-time jobs (or no jobs) and instead of trying to make money, they're making mods for ungrateful brats like you. Wait five seconds. Give them half a cent. Don't be a pain in the **** just because they want to make money which they could have been making if they weren't making mods for the public.
If they value my time at under minimum wage, I don't feel obligated to give them my time, or my money.
i know a way just wait for mods update then wait for installer's came (site:skydaz) then download the installer and enjoy your free mod without donating the modder or waiting 5 secs
I really like the fact that mods are free, but I don't like the millions of pop-up pages that open when I download a mod. A few ads on the adf.ly page are fine, so the pop-ups should be stopped.
Also, a warning when using GlimmerBlocker on Mac. My friend had it turned on, and it blocked adf.ly. To be specific, the WHOLE adf.ly page was not loaded. And it took forever to find download links that were direct or used some other form of downloading files. The point I have is that you should turn off GlimmerBlocker when installing Minecraft mod stuff.
Don't like it? Don't use mods.

They just make a few pennies on the side.

Generosity is dead with this one.
