When I started my world, I thought the snow was cool, so I continued to build. Now, I find it really irritating and I can't just start a new world now
Reasons snow is annoying:
1. You can't determine what type of block a block is, if snow is on top of it.
2. You can't place blocks on snow.
3. Ice - I love boats, too bad I can't use them x.x
4. Snowballs - They stack to 16 and stack up fast.
5. It's really annoying to look at when you've seen it 500 times.
6. You can easily get rid of the snow, but now when snowstorms come, they bring back the snow!
Ways to fix this:
Add an option to take out snow from your map. (Leaving all the other Biomes).
After snowstorms come, and leave all the snow on the ground, make it melt. (Only the snow that got generated by the snowstorm).
Eh, I'm from Minnesota, and guess what? Snow is even more annoying in real life. I actually have to do manual labor to get rid of it. And we had a lot of it this year :sad.gif:.
All you gotta do is click a few times with a shovel. Oh so hard :sleep.gif:.
Move to another biome. We've got beds that set spawn points now.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
... was snow that big of a problem when Alpha worlds were generated with it EVERYWHERE?
You just place a torch and viola, no snow.
When it snows on your driveway, does it cause problems? Yes, yes it does.
Thankfully in minecraft we have the ability to remove all that snow with lava. So there are two things you can gather from this: be thankful you can melt snow easily in minecraft, and the world's problems would be quickly solved if we all were able to carry buckets of lava where we please.
My world was created before they even had biomes and all that. I've been working on it for quite some time. It's never had snow and has always been a grassy area.
I tried clearing the snow away a few times. I can't really use buckets to mass wash the snow off because they lift off cart tracks and other items.
Seems reasonable that when the sun comes out it should melt the snow. It would have more of a world accurate feeling that way.
It stands to reason that if it snows in an area where there didn't used to be snow, it should melt, as opposed to staying forever until someone removes it.
I'm sure Notch will improve how this functions. It's a bit goofy at the moment.
Tip: Glowstone will also melt blocks nearby as long as it is not covered by an opaque block (it will melt snow through glass!). I used this to make some ground lighting by digging two squares deep, placing a glowstone and then a peice of glass at ground level. This will make a nice modern ground light and will melt the snow within a few blocks. Place a bunch along a path and your pathway will stay melted.
It would be cool if all snow within 20 blocks of a lava block melted. Then you could just bury a block of lava and keep areas you want from getting snowy!

Hm, that actually makes sense.
Biomes are generated based on humidity and temperature, correct? This could easily play a factor in snow melting. However, thinking about it... that may slow things down, as you're essentially doing a check for every snow block that exists... and I don't even know if blocks maintain that temperature property after chunk generation....
meh, either way, something to cause unnatural snow to go away would be a nice touch. However I still feel that it can easily be fixed by a quick torch placement.
Making a new world while you have just been playing and building for a month on a world with a huge house and castles wont work.
And snowballs must stack to 64 they are so annoying.
Craft 4 snowballs into 1 snow block.
Or, throw all your snowballs at the ground to get rid of them.
So i need to remove all the snow after every snowstorm, Then my inventory is full then i need to take 5-10 minutes to throw all it away or craft. Then i just only removed a small piece of the snow so i need to do it all again.
It takes about 2 hours to completley remove all the snow. and then just another blizzard hits.
When i came into my biome it wasnt a snow biome. there wasnt even 1 block of snow. Now with the weather the whole area is covered in snow.
Moving to a new biome is not a option because i have huge projects in that area.
I say it again: 1 solution: Melting snow. The people who like snow would still get snow. and for the ones who hate it the snow will be gone after a couple of minecraft days
Use a bucket of water to remove mass amounts of snow at once.
Or, place torches just underground so that the snow melts but the torches aren't visible.
Its snow, whats not to like? I like it, makes things atmospheric. I have a map where I have a home in the snow, and a home in a jungle biome nearby. The powered rails now make the trip BETTER and QUICKER.
ZOMG same here!

"Sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly."
I'm just gonna enjoy the snow. Why don't you build your structures fast if you're building in it, and then you won't have to worry about it piling up again? What I do is get rid of the snow for the place I'm building, then build it as fast as I can, and then it's done. No need to wait for more snow to pile on.
A number of people have posted sarcastic things like "Notch, give me an option to turn of dirt, it's annoying and ugly" or "Notch, I hate creepers but love zombies, give me the options to turn off certain monsters" or some such.
While these posts are, for the most part, rather rude, there is a good point to be made. A game could be made that lets you customise it to suit the way you want to play, but developing this would be impractical. At a certain point, maybe you just have to say "This isn't the game for you". Notch and Mojang are making a game that they have designed and built, and ultimately it will be them who decide what is in the game. If you want more (or less) mods do exist, and they are working on the modding API, which will make things even better. If after all of this, you decide that the annoyance of snow is outweighing your enjoyment of the game, then maybe there is another game that would suit you better?
I don't disagree that adding a weather option would solve your problem, and keep people who do like weather happy as well, but this sort of solution is just not practical for every complaint people have.
On another note, I'd really rather they didn't put in melting snow, I like the look of it covering everything.
Alright, so your beach is screwed up. This is game breaking how? Can you not convert it into something else? Hasn't it been said by Notch to "Not get too attached to your save files?"

I also remember that, i also remember that i could not play on snow world with over 3 FPS...
It had a christmassy mood though. :biggrin.gif:

I like this, would it really kill the game and the community if this is added?
For the future complainer about this-
don't use it
