First thing I'm going is building a gravel bridge that will hide under a lake of Lava. That way I can pull a switch and watch the bridge sink into the flames.

All fair points and I understand where each of you stand to support your argument. But I was really looking for how you feel in the addition of this mod to the real game.
I think pistons will be a great addition to Minecraft. Soon I will be able to have floodgates and more advanced cobblestone generators. I am really looking forward to this. In response to your first post, pistons could not be used to push a whole mountain or make an infinitely long bridge because they can only push up to sixteen blocks.
Oh, I didn't know that. Sorry, the time I played around with the piston mod I did make some self-forming bridges but constantly blew them up to let it automaticly reform again.
YES I know I just said something positive about the mod but I had already mention in my opening point that it is a lot of fun. I was only looking towards other people opinions.

Make one of those "puzzle type" situations and once you've completed the puzzle, the bridge is formed. YEAY!
Personally i would love to see it in the game, it opens up huge opportunities like hidden doors and floodgates which were previously impossible. A simple reskin would make it fit into the minecraft feel.
It's great to see the development team reach out to mods but I think personaly that other mods should be looked at aswell.
I'm surprised no one has taken this into account.
Say the mod was accepted into the real game and the development team wanted another mod to be implemented into the game aswell. What mod would you recommend?
I think that some of "Mo' Creatures" should have been a mod that would inspire the development team to install it into the real game BEFORE pistons.
Also, anyone who has the Piston mod, does activated TNT get moved with the piston? Can you make bouncing betty traps?
Once TNT is activated, yes it can be moved around as if it were a person by the pistons, but if it's not activated then it can only move 1 block at a time from the piston like any other block.
Personally, I think the piston fills a need that minecrafters have been wanting for awhile. This isn't some simple spring!
It's an elegant solution to floodgates, cart boosters, and conveyor belts. With a fresh coat of textures you can have a block that feels just as minecraft as any other.

I am going to be building minefields now. This is great news.

I see it as a way of progression, as the game updates, we receive an invention that came with the mining and general industry expanding and evolving in parallel to real life.
Besides my geeky history stuff though.
I think it's a good idea, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it, it just makes it more accessible.
I like the idea of pistons, but I intend to use them as primarily hidden objects, mostly to rearrange stuff behind walls, open up secret doors, etc.
Pistons are for traps.
Pistons, for example, could be used to push a sudden dispenser full of arrows into a hallway from the ceiling or wall or ground that immediately fires at you if you step on a button, or a flood/lava trap, traps that cause falling sand or gravel to crush you, traps that open up holes in the ground to make pit traps, or secret doors open up in walls, tnt launching traps, shifting walls, magically forming or crumbling bridges, bounce pads, or scary crushing wall traps, where an entire hallway shrinks and kills you. The possibilities are really expansive and broad, and fit in line with dispensers, in getting the game ready for dungeons with traps and monsters.
The difference between pistons and engines that use pistons is how it is viewed. Powered minecarts might, IRL, use pistons and whatever, but in-game it's as simple as "input coal, get power." Same with dispensers; "input item, hit button, out goes item." Sure, you'd expect complicated things to be in the dispenser IRL, but in-game it's still a simple item. Pistons? Not so much. They're called pistons, they're certainly a complicated item, and it just ruins the immersion for me.
cfehunter: If it was magical, why would it be called a piston? Pistons aren't magical, and a piston that uses magic isn't a piston.
Why does it make no sense? I'd like to at least hear some reasons for this claim :tongue.gif:
Think about it, our most advanced item in the game is a metal box with wheels. Now, we have something that can use one hell of a spring to launch yourself 10 meters in the air, and automatically reset itself? Doesn't really fit.
I would disagree, I would say is the most advanced thing that ever could be in the game w/o a mod. Redstone is alot more advanced than people realize.
i think it should be added. super funa and give so much more to do with redstone. there isnt that much you cant do now and with the addition of the piston, it would open windows to so many more redstone contraptions.

Best idea ever. Thank you so much.

Otherwise, I guess you can't really form a strong argument about it. It's multiplayer that worries me.

If it aint worth fixing dont fix it.
