The only things that I don't tag as "awesome" in this video are the rain color (blue? ser'sly?) and rain sounding like a running tap. Nothing I can't fix by myself, so let's go woooo!
The water in minecraft is blue aswell.
But you're right, it should be kinda white/cyan half transparent.
I'm building a 16x texture pack trying to match real life patterns and colors, so blue water stands out in the surroundings like a kick in the nuts. Since I can't skin regular water without forcing players to use patchers (which I hate) at least I made rain light grey and 50% more transparent hoping the game will load it.
30 seconds of rain, 15 seconds of blue sky. 30 seconds of rain, 15 seconds of blue sky. God damnit notch could make rain a bit more rare. I don't want get hitted by a thunder for ever 40 seconds...
I first saw this vid on the diamondblock blog. according to them, mojang is going to add pistons, like the mod, into the 1.6 update. My only concern is that i fly planes v8 on my client and soon(hopefully) my private server, so when im flying my mostly metal Spitfire or my wood Sopwith camel in a thunderstorm...well , you get the point........
Oh, and this also solves the problem of cheapos and noobs making very griefable making cheap wood plank or log houses since i doubt they will make rain put out fire, since that ruins the point of lightning. it may slow it down, but not put it out. Since most rain cant put out a regular house fire in the real world, why should it in the minecraft world? Plus it will teach noobs that stone buildings and brick buildings are useful. Especially bricks, which are under used, but harder than stone and relatively easy to create en masse. Plus it looks nice.
On the note of the pistons mod in Minecraft, that will solve a lot of problems with huge gaps like those in the nether/ Aether, help large scale Nether building since the bridge maker utilizes cobblestone, and creating huge floors or levels in a building quickly. Technically, though ive never seen it, it might be possible to make walls using the same technique. As I said above, I use planes, so once it is updated after 1.5 release, i will no longer have a problem with making large runways! yay planes!
The achievement parts are interesting. There was the infamous "Ride a pig off a cliff" bit, but there were also simple ones for opening up the inventory and getting wood from a tree.
I'm specifically interested in the tree-like structure he had displayed for achievements, where it looked like one might depend on others. It looked to me (and it was kinda hard to see, so forgive me if I'm off) that the "get wood" achievement lead to the "benchmarking" one, which you get for making a workbench.
It almost seems to me that the achievements are half for fun and half as a tutorial, which is something the game's lacked for quite a while. Hopefully this'll really help out newcomers to the game!

This forum ticked me off so much I went to random.org and set my password to something I'll never be able to remember, then switched my password reset to a throwaway.
Lightning should be more likely to strike something the higher up it is, as well as give different blocks a "Lightning attraction" level, with gold blocks being the highest, and glass or dirt being the lowest. It shouldn't be specifically attracted to iron.
This means that you won't need to amass 9 or more iron ingots to protect your home. You could just make a cobblestone lightning rod, or a gold block lightning rod, or even a dirt lightning rod (Although this will not work well at all.).
I thought we were going to get stats like:Strength,Sword,Jumping and Swimming.Like in Rpgs stats could have worked like this:The more jumping you do your jumping stat increases and you can jump higher, the more you use axes and pickaxes the higher your strength goes up and you can break blocks quicker, the more mobs you killed the higher your sword stat goes up and you can kill mobs in less hits and the more swimming your do you swimming stat goes up and you can swim faster.Too bad Notch just meant stupid things like how many times you mined coal or how many times you destroyed trees.
The irony is that the entire community (or at least a very large majority) thinks your idea is ****, as do I.
That's my worry as well. I use an old clunker with a crappy gfx card and not enough RAM so the notion of more particle effects is kind of equally worrisome as it is cool.

I never said everyone wanted it.What is ironic is that your avatar says damn trolls even though you are one.
What's ironic is that 75% of the internet can't correctly identify a troll. Stats in Minecraft WOULD be dumb currently. Why build stairs when I can jump over the bump. Why make iron tools when my stone ones as just as fast as iron tools normally do, and my stone sword dominates. Why get a boat when I can swim just as fast. Why use a minecart for travel when I walk at around the same speed? Why play survival when my eyes shoot lasers and I can fly with more power than Hancock. >_<
judging from the video, I believe so, yes.
I would make weather optional. I don't like it.
there should also be monstas that come out only when it's raining/snowing.
I can barely run the game as it is right now.

I'm not sure if the Lightning Rod concept is included but it would be an awesome addition! :smile.gif:

funny thing about lightning.
in RL, when lightning strikes sand, it causes the silicon to instantly melt and reform into an extremely rare form of glass.
in this game, for all intents and purposes, i'm thinking causing individual sand blocks to explode and release a single block of glass.
just my take. wouldn't be hard...
I'd make weather effects at all optional.
