We had a board meeting today, which felt relatively grown up and mature. We had it at a nice asian restaurant, and there was food, drinks and coffee. Carl held a nice presentation, showing the progress of the company, and we discussed and voted about various details on where to go and what to do. The most relevant parts for Minecraft is that we decided to bring in bug fixing into the development method in a more clear way so that people working customer support can add them as tasks for us, and that we finally set a release date for Minecraft.
It’s a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time. For one, the version we deem as the “full version” won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards. The plan is to be open with this and try to get people to cheer us on as much as possible, but to be open with the fact that the game won’t change much at the actual release day. (It’s more a progress up until that point)
We picked November 11, with the unofficial tagline “us too”.
It’s the same date as a few other games and movies, and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim, so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!
And, in case you want an update on Minecraft:
We’ve been working on finishing up Achievements and Statistics for 1.5, I ran into some issues with JSON, got frustrated, and added weather instead. Developing new features like that is what I enjoy doing the most, so I ended up covering a lot of ground. There’s periodic downfall (snow in snowy areas, rain in others, nothing in deserts) that make the sky darker, hides the sun, moon and stars, and makes everything wet. Ice grows back in cold regions, and snowfall covers the ground when it’s snowing. During rain/snow, there can be occasional thunderstorms with lightning. I haven’t finished the actual lightning bolt yet, but everything else is fairly done.
Once the stats are done and the weather has been tested through, we’ll release 1.5. I’m guessing this will be next week. The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5."
I'm glad to see weather make a return to the game! No doubt I will enjoy 1.5 for a limited time. Just like 1.4. I'm not ungrateful but I would really like to see new types of blocks or perhaps quicker obsidian and redstone mining.
New armour sets… something. I'm quite happy with he game as it is, but there's so much wasted potential here that I find it a damn shame that the best we can hope for in forthcoming patches are features which were, once upon a time, implemented in the game. Rain was in Minecraft and is still in creative mode.
Also; the Achievement system is by far the worst feature that is eventually going to be implemented into this game. The release date is pointless since, he said it himself, that barely anything is going to change from this version and the full version of Minecraft.
I saw a vid about that... Its like a block and a pressureplate shape thing on top of it. you can direct it where u r facing using the right click and when u attach redstone wiring, u can make things fly(even urself) move objects, stone, dirt, cobblestone, and make lavapools with hidden passages...
PS: sorry if u dont understand... if u want to see it, go to youtube and type in piston mod.
Notch said that the Piston mod has a good chance of NOT being put in. Stop whining, complaining, asking, discussing, etc. Might as well add guns too right? Not gonna happen...yet.

"The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5." http://notch.tumblr.com/
But i don't think he will ever add in guns.
I cant wait!
At first Notch said that it will be out on April 14, but now he says that it "should" be out on April 20th. :sad.gif:
But besides the wait... its going to be the biggest update to the game since the Nether update. (at leased, thats what Coestar said in EP140...)
Snow particles when you and mobs walk through snow, ladder gaps don't work any more but when crafting ladders we get 2 per craft as oppose to 1 now, and he fixed the side texture of grass - so all Tex Packs need to fix this eventually and update their work.
I have a feeling all the people complaining about lack of updates and features will suddenly shut up when 1.5 comes out.
They'll never stop Travis. Next it'll be...
"What about tornados? Why hasn't he added tornados?"
"Why don't we have our lanterns yet?!"
"Why hasn't he added a collector, the opposite of a dispenser?!"
larryandbob, (*WHINER ALERT WHINER ALERT*)
I know right?
I'm happy now, considering Notch is finally working again.
(to the other who are responding and say "the whiner will still whine", don't act like you speak for the majority)
He's adding those to the game? Cool.
