I think. Oh well. Wolves in Beta 1.4, and the 1.4 update is coming soon. Achievements are a rumor in the new update. But I'm excited for the 1.4 update. I'm gonna tame wolfies!
Achvievements wouldn't fit the way you play minecraft, the only thing you could get achvments for is stuff your already going to do. (IE: Mine diamond, Make Tnt, Go above clouds, Survive a 50 block fall)
http://www.youtube.com/user/seananners and find the video with the livestream interview with notch and him. He talks about achievements, statistics, wolves and possibly bed becoming your spawn so you dont need to have nbedit to thingie your spawn
Who says there a rumor lol? notch said that he is working on achievements right now.
It's a rumor that they'll be in the 1.4 update, not that they'll eventually be included at all.

This forum ticked me off so much I went to random.org and set my password to something I'll never be able to remember, then switched my password reset to a throwaway.
Yeah, people get bored sometimes and want actual GOALS in MC. Though I guess they could make said goals themselves (ex. build a large cathedral, etc etc) but I think achievements will be kinda cool.

Why are these notch side? Per server and maybe I'd be interested. Unbelievably cheateable and already redundant because of that. At least I know people on my server aren't cheating!
I can't see an achieve system working well with MC the way it is now. Adventure has a better possibility and does make sense, whereas Survival doesn't for a few reasons.
How would Notch make achieves interesting outside the obligatory cut down trees or place blocks ideas? I can see the ride a pig off a cliff working well, or possibly dig up x amount of diamonds, but I can't think of any that would be interesting.
Secondly, there's too many mods that alter the game in whatever way, meaning that there's a possibility achievements would be affected in some way (whether it be not working correctly, etc). Granted, a mod api might fix a good bulk of this bullet point, but the thought's still out there.
Pretty much my only valid thought points, unless you want to count the "But what interesting crap will we get for earning achievements?" thought.

You (probably) couldn't think of a game like Minecraft before it came out but Notch did it. The man has creativity, let's wait to see the results and then complain. I have some hope he does a good job, at least better than the mainstream idea of "achievements".

This is true for all updates. Until they release a mod api, every single change in the game can break mods.
I don't think the game should stop his update process just to give modders a break; it's their "job" to update mods to make them work with new versions of the game, after all.

No. We won't get no crap for earning achievements, that's the only sure thing about it.

modders have added so many more things to the game than notch has, and, unlike him, they don't get paid millions of dollars for doing it.
Kill a wolf you've tamed.

In order for sleep to occur in multiplayer, all players have to be in a bed, so you'd have to sleepwalk teabag.
No, if not everyone is in a bed the players that are in bed just sit there until they press "leave bd" or everyone gets in a bed. So he could....
Achievements aren't coming in 1.4.
