I've always wondered if anybody has ever done some real terraforming in minecraft. I don't mean a little bit, I mean something like a really big project. Just imagine...if you had the time and patience you could literally make the most epic world possible.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by terraforming here?
Actually, your thread reminded me of another issue I have with town-building in SMP. I hate how everyone loves building towns by just using a command to create a giant, flat space for a generic grid town. Real towns are built into the terrain. Things like mountains and water features make a town have more character and feel more realistic, but so many people ignore the terrain entirely when planning a town, and they're missing out on a lot of natural beauty.

Nice to know someone else actually feels that way. While I will alter terrain, even carving up a mountain or two if needed, I generally build around the natural landscape. And flat gets boring very quickly.

By terraforming I don't mean making an unnatural landscape, I mean recreating what the minecraft level generator does, but of course with much more cooler looking landscapes.

mabey building a town in sp will be funner because of complex terrain, also there will be
ruins,mabey a new lighting block.
