Welcome to the third (and most likely final) round of voting in The Great 1.4 Suggestion Poll. The purpose of this poll is to gauge the Minecraft community's most-wanted additions to Minecraft in the next major content patch.
In the poll, you may vote for two things to add to Minecraft. I will make any reasonable effort I can to bring this poll to Notch's attention (including a trip to Sweden, if anyone's willing to fund the expedition). The ten options you see are the top ten of twenty-five nominations that were voted on in Round 2. A clarification of the choices follows:
New Mobs (Aggressive and/or Passive) - You are voting for the addition of new aggressive and/or passive mobs, not including NPCs (as this has its own voting option).
Weather - You are voting for the addition of any weather conditions, such as rain, snow, etc.
New Furniture - Colored beds? Wall clocks? Chairs and tables? If you want to see any of these added, vote here.
NPCs/NPC-built Villages (such as Pigmen and Pigmen villages) - If you want to see NPCs and structures/settlements built by these NPCs, vote for this one.
Nether Update/New Nether Content - Vote here if you support additional content for the Nether.
Improved Minecart System (such as Minecarts Mk. II) - Vote here if you want to see an improvement or expansion of the minecart system. This is also the one to root for if you want to see Minecarts Mk. II added to the game. For an explanation of Minecarts Mk. II, see here:
New Lighting Options (such as lanterns, fireplaces, etc.) - Vote here if you want any new items or features to light your world and buildings, such as lanterns, fireplaces, any form of portable lighting devices, and so on.
New Underwater Content (such as diving/breathing equipment) - Vote for this one if you want to see anything like diving bells, scuba suits, breathing equipment, or underwater content in general (such as underwater flora and/or fauna).
New Ores/Alloys (such as copper, tin, bronze, silver, etc.) - If you're hoping to see any metals in the game, vote for me!
Aether (a new dimension, as suggested in the Suggestions Board) - Vote here for the Aether realm, a heaven analog to the Nether's hell. For a description of this very popular idea from the Suggestions Board, look here:
These are three suggestions from Round 2 that didn't make the cut, but I'd like to give a special mention to because they are very simple in nature, easy to implement and (hopefully) uncontroversial potential additions to the game. They are not up for voting, but I thought they deserved a bit of the spotlight:
Fence Gates: Received 18 votes in Round 2 of the voting. Fence Gates would improve the functionality of gates greatly.
New Stairs: Received 5 votes in Round 2. With the addition of new slabs, it seems like a good idea to add some new stairs as well. Fans of desert biomes (such as me) would appreciate sandstone stairs.
Gravestones: Received 3 votes in Round 2. Didn't garner too much attention in Round 2, but I like the idea of a gravestone popping up at locations where the player died. Would add to the ambiance of Minecraft and doesn't seem like a difficult addition.
I've set the poll to run 14 days. I'll make every effort to get the word out of the vote, and I encourage you to do so as well. If you happen to know Notch, let him know the Great 1.4 Suggestion Poll is here. It is my highest goal to ensure the voices of Minecraftia reach Notch's ears. Thank you for your participation, and happy voting!
Voted! And:
Can someone explain to me why people want new furniture so much? There's so many better things to implement first. I can't see furniture adding anything other than aesthetics. (Not that aesthetics are a bad thing)
I would love to see a minecart update, and the addition of new lighting options, but I have to say...
I do NOT want pre-built structures in my game. The whole point is that I built everything myself. I'd be happy with having the Nether and the potential Aether spawn NPC villages (it'd make them much more exciting to visit) but please PLEASE don't spawn buildings in my mortal world!
Id be just as happy if modders got all over these ideas. Its not like Notch pays any attention. Even if he did, the real question is WHEN any of it would even work right/ be in the game.
Voted.
It was a hard choice for me. A lot of goodies I would love to see. I would love new lighting though, either portable or something I can hang on the ceiling. I would sell someone's soul for this!
(Can't sell my own, since you can't sell what you don't have (legally)!)
if the NPC AI got good enough for it, wouldn't it be awsome to watch pigmen building a settlement?
It's definitely possible, although it might require a bit of work for just one feature, I think it would be awesome.
The AI ingame right now is relatively simple and extremely basic (move a few blocks, scan radius, (repeat), if player is within radius, chase+fire weapon/hit, if player is out of radius stop chasing) but it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt it to, say, have the AI stay in a group, have them chop down trees for wood, mine minerals for materials, create items, etc.
Say make a simple small village/mine (for weapons, houses, etc.) and just stay in their spawn area. Hell, maybe later down the line they could have them craft+set up booby traps.
Of course the other route they could go (which is probably a lot easier with how minecraft is coded) is to simply have randomly generated villages put around the map where the pigmen live, and they can only spawn in said location (specific type of monster spawners in the houses maybe?)
My votes were for furniture in new mobs. Furniture in particular is a big want of mine because I'm tired of seeing so many buildings with giant empty floors. The NPC villages so many people want do sound interesting but I'm a bit skeptical about how well they would actually work in practice.
There's a lot of ideas on the poll I liked (Weather, Nether update, Minecraft update, Lighting update and the Aether), but the two I voted for were Weather and the Nether.
The Nether needs an update of any sorts (even if it's just adding one to two things I'll be happy). The way it is now is very lacking and/or underwhelming, including little reason to go there, go back there, or even stay there.
As for weather, it'd be a nice feature that would add a bit of realism to the game. I'd love to see snow fall and have a chance to cover dirt/grass blocks and trees in snow. I'd also love to see rain and possibly cause rivers and lakes to overflow or flood. I'm fine if clouds aren't changed (meaning there's a chance that one day would have complete cloud cover or no clouds at all).
Everything else should be self explanatory.

Many great choices to choose from because I like most of the 10 options. My vote was for furniture and more ore. Furniture because I have all of these buildings in one world (and more to come) and some of them with big rooms and they just look so empty. More ore - would just like some more building materials to use.
I'm good with any updates that are provided in the game. Anything that adds to the game is always welcome. However, I'm still missing the endless burning logs!! LOL
I would like to see some more building blocks or more styles of some others. A metal style fence, shrubbery, cylindrical roman type columns, gargoyles, sloped blocks.. you get the idea.
I want snow again, dangit. I loved it, and it was the first map I ever played on. Now snow goes away forever and ever if you do anything to it, and the snow biomes are small.
Hard choice between new mobs(I don't want the full mo' creatures as it's simply too packed and a lot of the things in it simply.. retarded.. but I wouldn't mind some things to flesh out the world a bit) and mob villages. NPC Creates villages would be pretty hard to code.. since a AI that can build would be impossible. I guess you could create a set of stock already made buildings that generate.
Hm.. now wishing I'd voted for villages instead of more creatures. ****. Can't change the vote either.

My thoughts:
Tough choice, but NPC villages would be awesome, and would give the world a lot more life. (Friendly or hostile)
And an improved minecart system would be just lovely, it's got a lot of room for improvement and is slightly hard to work with.
More alloys and materials would be great to work with as well, and so would more furniture.
That's the one thing I love about this game, the possibilities (modded or unmodded) for pretty much anything are pretty much endless.
In v1.3 zombies just want a hug...
It's definitely possible, although it might require a bit of work for just one feature, I think it would be awesome.

Mod system must be next. Allelse can wait.
Things like colored lights, and lights that can be controlled via redstone.

I agree. Not sure what the big fascination is with weather.
(Fence gates are a must as well. I'm tired of having to deal with annoying fences and having no visually pleasing way to get past them.)
