I wouldn't mind space, aliens, or guns (flintlocks, not assault rifles). And I think an obsidian sword (as opposed to an entire set) is in order due to the historical accuracy of it. But aside from that you're spot on.
Seriously dude...
Why would you want SPACE TRAVEL in a B.C era survival game?!
It just doesn't fit. At all.
minecraft is not B.C. its more renaissance/medieval eras.
Read my edit.
And plus, the main idea of that whole thread wasnt the era, it was the stupid fact that people think they can just go into space with out any knowledge of how that would work with medieval technology or how the player would even find all of the resources necessary in building a space ship.
I will stop playing the game if notch adds the Aether, I really hate that suggestion. I don't mind guns and such, I think there fine. I love airplanes though, if anyone says there unnecessary, they don't have to walk for an hour to find a new cave for the new ores and such.
I never want to see anything that points to a specific era in time. Minecraft is not prehistoric. Minecraft is not medievalistic. Minecraft is not Modern. Minecraft is not futuristic. Minecraft is Minecraft.

I suggest we adopt a xenophobic attitude towards this clearly deadly threat.
We need to quarantine any infected individuals to prevent this plague from gaining a foot-hold.

You know, you could just, like, not make the Aether portal.
Also, if you want balanced aircraft, then check out my Ornithopter suggestion. There's a link in my signature.
As far as guns go, no automatic weapons of any form. A gun would need to be an expensive weapon with expensive ammunition, and requires you to place the gun and some ammunition in a crafting grid together to reload. Then it would be balanced as long as it was a 2 hit kill.

Some people consider the: 'if you dont like it dont use it' argument a bit of a copout. or a last attempt to get support for a idea. but thats not important so I'm going to point out that if its in the vanilla, people who hated the idea to begin with are likely to use them, maybe even like them. It would definatly make me a hypocrite if I tried and liked a flintlock gun if it gets added. XD
One thing I would hate is if something was added that takes longer to mine then obsidian, requires the
more-useless diamond tool (like an axe or a hoe or a shovel) to harvest it, and looks terrible. Obsidian isnt the best looking block, best used for roads or to make buildings look evil/cursed in my opinion. Also a creeper proof wall, but I like to use bricks for that.
I don't want to see any gun, nuclear objects, anything highly intelligent, and over powered mobs (keep them simple). I do want to say that solar panels, dams, and geothermal energy systems. I don't blame you if you think that it seems high tech, but I am hear to say that it isn't and can be done in a simple way. We would of been able to do it in BC if we knew how to assemble it.

I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.

I would have to agree with all the statements about space and futureistic things but about oil i have to disagree.
Oil is far from a modern concept, of course if it was in minecraft I would suggest it to be only used as crude and not processed. Perhaps as a fuel or trap. (Spilling oil off a wall on to mobs then lighting them on fire would bring me oodles of joy)
I dont want to see completly unrealistic technology like assault rifles or ornithopters (face it, we can't even build a decent ornithopter now, they just wouldn't make sense)
on the other hand, I saw an airship suggestion which I really liked, an airship would fit in with items already in-game
we already have kinda steam power with the minecarts (unless the coal just magically gets transformed into kinetic energy, i'm going to assume powered minecarts use steam)
Minecarts don't use steam. Nothing can USE steam itself. Steam just is released as coal is burnt.

That isn't how it works.
Normally, the coal would evaporate the water, turning it into steam. The steam has expanded, so now there is a larger volume of it, and it is then utilized to move pistons, which then in turn power the wheels.
In minecraft, a powered minecart does practically the same thing, except it takes the water out of the equation.
Also, what someone said about my ornithopter suggestion:
It is more of a steampunk thing. There actually are working ornithopters in real life, that actually fly quite well. There aren't anywhere near as many that are capable of lifting humans, but they still exist. This is just putting a steampunk spin on it, and making a coal powered one. It is much more original than a conventional aircraft, and fits with the feel of minecraft, at least to most of the people who have posted and voted.

First, BCE please, not BC. Second, who's to say the time period in which Minecraft is set is any time in the far past? Given that there exist jukeboxes, and that vinyl discs were the preferred medium for singles through the mid-eighties, it could be any time between the 50's and then. And I don't have to tell you that space travel has been possible since the 1960's. I'll put up with not having oil or other modern conveniences, and I'm not saying I really want space travel, only that I wouldn't mind if it were implemented.

The so called "common era" is still decided by the birth of Jesus whether it's renamed or not, so why even bother bringing it up? A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Historically speaking, Mr. Christ was born in 4 BCE. The naming of eras has no correlation to his life at all. It's just more correct to say BCE, plus you don't offend anyone who might care.

I really don't see the problem with oil, as long as there are no cars, it should be fine. And don't say it doesn't fit with the Minecraft time period (not saying it has one), because any people from any time period could have discovered oil, it would have just taken a long time or happened by chance. Just because the first recorded oil discovery was in the the 20th century, by no means makes it modern.

Having read the thread on oil, I couldn't agree more.

A blunderbuss is over powered... It literally blows everything ,in its range, up.
A flintlock is acceptable, but not a destructive shot gun.

and also, nothing that you can't easily avoid: creepers - you can play on peaceful
nether - you can completely ignore it if you wish
all good addons are optional

I want to see a transport vehicle that doesn't need rails, but does need a furnace to power it, kind of like a car, but not so modern-ish
