Since I am personally a Christian, I am feeling very offended by the long post on page 7...sigh...don't all of our religions tell us to disprove others? I honestly could care less about religion when playing a game as subtle as Minecraft.

Well, it being impossible to prove or disprove any specific religion, and there being more than one religion condemning non-believers to a "hell", it makes sense to use the time we have to enrich the human condition.
Make a big massive version of the Ka'aba with obsidian and post pics :smile.gif: I've never actually seen a religious symbol inside a game like this, and it would be pretty neat.

Actually, there is quite the record of religious structures being constructed in Minecraft. Mostly churches an cathedrals (due to the large christian demographic) but also a few mosques and synagogues. Notably churches qualify as religious symbols as they frequently display a cross quite prominently in their architecture.
As for the Ka'aba, might I suggest a custom 1x4 painting for the gold trim/ lettering? It will look a lot better than a simple line of gold blocks running around the structure.

Oh I was actually planning on using glowstone as it would give it a slight texture and make it look like gold with black markings, much like how the real deal has gold stripes, black background, and gold lettering. I'll try that out, and if it doesn't look good I'll go with the paintings idea.
As such. (Except sponge = glowstone)
And sorry about all the religious blabber. I'll try to get the discussion back on topic for all the new people coming and contributing.

An interesting idea. I'd try my own faith, but I'm Christian so it wouldn't affect gameplay much... I could avoid the Nether, I guess...
Like I said before you could try to follow all the biblical laws from the old testament... Other than that I got nothing sorry.

I'll probably do this, except
1. I'll probably make it to-scale, as I hate oversized buildings...
2. I'll probably make it out of black cloth as it fits more to the real deal, for the reasons I explained before.
But yeah I'll get right on that!

But I'll probably stop arguing about religion on this thread as I liked how it was before. Also, if you do make such a thread, I'll snip all my debate stuffs here and move it to there. Are you allowed to stand on Kaaba? I know that the pilgrims touch it a lot and even try to kiss the stone, but aren't feet and shoes considered as unpure in some Muslim cultures? Luckily, you'll be barefooted when you respawn on Kaaba, if you build it on your respawning point, but isn't touching it even with bare feet somewhat disrespectful?
[snip]
Oh sorry must have missed this!
1. It is disrespectful to touch the Kaaba with our feet, but I don't plan on making the spawn RIGHT ON the Kaaba. Probably right in front of it.
Oh whoops flip that around! (I don't plan on making the Kaaba RIGHT ON the spawn.)
2. Interesting analogie... but yes. And it's not like Muslims are the only suicide bombers... ( )

Unfortunately, I don't see a thread based upon theological and philosophical debate meeting with much approval from the mods.
Also, I do believe that obsidian would be a better proxy, as I believe the actual Ka'aba is made out of black marble? With a pure silk covering called the Kiswah, richly embroidered with golden thread depicting Quran verses(note, the thread is made from actual 24k gold). Manufactured at an estimated cost of 17 million USD, it was originally fabricated in Egypt, shipped to mecca amongst a celebratory parade during Hajj season.

Oh ok... well... that sucks. Couldn't we at least try?
Nevertheless:
Nope. The Kaaba is made of red brick. So I'll probably make the bottom layer brick and the rest black cloth. (You may have gotten confused because the story of the black rock being added to the corner.) But search on google images or something and you'll find pictures of them changing the cloth as they do every (other?) Ramadan, revealing the brick structure. But mine will probably look something like this:
=glowstone.
That's what I think would be good. I might add a piece of obsidian to the corner to represent the black rock! I think it's at the east-north corner... I'll check. But about the gold lettering: As I said before (and as you did too) making it of gold would appear to simply be a gold stripe around the top, while glowstone would give it a black/gold texture. So I think that would look better. However I may make the door out of gold. (It is irl.)

Correction, it is pink granite laid upon a marble slab foundation. It would appear that no mortar was used in its construction, each block is Appox. 3'x2'x1'.
I'd like to see this idea/play style reworked for Judaism, the Amish-faith (better word for that?), and Mormons.
As far as Amish-faith or whatever it is, (Although I don't think that's really a faith...) there are no electronics in Minecraft so....
And I would guess if you WERE Amish you wouldn't be playing to start with.
Actually the Amish of Indiana have changed quite a bit. Most are still horse and buggy people, but they are allowed to have a truck as long as they producing something for sale, they are also allowed to have cell phones for the same reason as the truck except it may not come in the house. That is for those who wish to stay mostly Amish but then there are those who do not look like any Amish picture or stereotype around, normal everyday people with electricity phones and video games. Blew my mind when I found that out, I thought they all were horse and buggy people that only wore two colors(black and white).
Eight pages of civilized conversations? I am proud. Personally I haven't found a civilized topic in these forums in a while, congratulations Soloman212, you've done a fine job conducting this topic.

Hey, First of all I'd like to say, I admire you for posting this onto the boards, it takes guts, knowing what replies you could have had (Although it all seems to be going smoothly, surprisingly...

Salaam Alaikum!
1. Thanks!
2. Go for it! And yes they are truly ungodly creatures...
3. Like I said before my "prayer" in game is simply a short Duah. That way the challenge is remembering and not the prayer itself. Like a button I have to press every once and a while.
3. Due to my non-killing of pigs they had begun to flood my home mountain, so using torches I led them to a pit and trapped them in there. Now I constantly hear pig noises, but I guess I'll just have to leave them in there. Of course there might be an unfortunate accident... MUAHAHA!
I'll continue this reply when I get back to my comp.
4. I do have a wheat farm going on and so far it has been going quite well. I have two and a half chests of bread (Bread not wheat!) and it's more enough to keep me alive.
5. The point is for me to have a slight disadvantage! It's a challenge!

1. That's all nice and fine but (Like many other instances of evolution) don't you think that at each step of these apes becoming more and more human like and therefore better in every way, they would have killed off the weaker ones? That seems to happen in every other instance! We don't do it now because we are so much more superior than apes that we don't feel the need, but if at first there were all apes and some became more intelligent and such watnot, they would have been similar and still lived together, and knowing male apes (and humans for that matter) they probably would have beaten the other unevolved apes to death with a rock or something. Just saying. With other species that evolve the older versions usually die out... Like with alligators.
Evolution makes more sense if you think of the end product (creature able to survive enviroment) as a gas affected by entropy. From a macroscopic view, the gas appears similar no matter what (creature surviving in enviroment), while the uncalculable different stages of entropy the gas went through to reach that state are the evolutionary means to the end gas mixture.
I know there is plenty wrong with that example; feel no need to correct slight things wrong with the analogy, but feel free to correct obvious mistakes.
<--- doesn't believe macroscopic evolution as a means of diversification works.
It's nice to understand what others believe, no matter what your take of it is.

Actually, if you look at Europe, Neanderthals moved to Europe 500,000 years ago, modern humans stayed in Africa, both species evolved separately and when modern humans moved to Europe 80,000 years ago, they wiped out Neanderthals (Modern Humans and Neanderthals were not the same species at this point, as evolution has changed them too much, however, they could still breed together in the same way as horses and donkeys can...)
It isn't what you are thinking though, modern humans didnt exactly hunt Neanderthals to death, they just survived and thrived and food and space ran out for Neanderthals and they eventually died out over thousands of years.
The hell did neanderthals come from? I was using an analogy so that the RANDOM evolutionary path (singular) that led to humans was a little more illustrated. In fact my analogy still works, if you think that at point A the gas was seperated into two containers. At point B one container had the human configuration, while the other container had a similar though different configuration. With less time for the gas to change state the two containers had a very similar though seperate gases (species).

Obviously I cannot prove evolution to someone who doesn't wish to believe it, because it's impossible to do that, I am just saying that your point of saying evolution isn't true because more advanced forms would cause less advanced forms of life to die out, and because less advanced forms of life survive, evolution isnt true... Isn't exactly well thought out...
I never outright said that evolution was false, merely macroevolution. I also never stated any thing about more or less advanced life forms killing other species. You may want to seperate the quotes so that way people don't become confused.

this thread is more about discussing how religions and beliefs affect your game play of Minecraft, but now why you believe in what you believe and why you don't believe in what others believe... Once you get into that, the thread becomes susceptible to trolls and flamers, and just general hostility as passions can get high.
True, so let's roll this back into religion in application with Minecraft play styles.
I assume in Islam that hoarding or coveting is not allowed, as is in Christianity. How would this apply to SSP?

Eh yes I know I'm not very well studied when it comes to evolution from ape to man, but I (and Muslims for that matter) do believe in evolution in general. As in we do believe that there is natural selection, and that animals adapt to their environment, and we do believe humans have evolved. However we believe that their ancestors were not apes but just larger and more ape-like humans, but humans nonetheless. But I'll stay away from arguments because I want this thread to be back on topic.
As for the hoarding thing: Yes Muslims do think it is bad to hoard money. But it doesn't mean you can't be rich: You just have to use your money (for good reasons) and donate the required amount (called Zakat). That way you keep the economy going. So it's more about keeping the community going and the money and wealth circulating. And I wish everyone did it. Most depressions are caused by people being insecure in the economy and therefore not buying or investing, and instead hoarding their money.
As for Minecraft implications: as far as SSP goes, I don't have any neighbors to share with, and I don't exactly have extra luxury... I need it to live! But in SMP I do share bread, and in fact can not price it too high for them to buy as they need it to survive. In fact, in most servers that have mobs ( ) I usually walk around with bread and throw it at people as they fight at night, as I don't like getting my hands dirty and am a superb farmer.
