I hate wasting resources, so I wait to smelt things until I have a multiple of 8, so not a single bit of coal is wasted.
Something else, tied into that: I always have 8 or 16 furnaces in my house, so I can do what I call a "perfect smelt", exactly one stack running with the minimum amount of time for each coal.
And finally, I never build out of wood. Wood burns. Wood isn't very creeper resistant. Wood requires active work to get. I build out of stone. Creeper resistant, is collected as a result of resource hunting, and in my opinion, looks rather smashing when applied in the right way. (I still use wood floors often, though.)

Advocate of literacy, understanding, and knowledge, three things this forum lacks in large quantities.
I hoard ALL (Even Iron) ores then compress them into block form, arrange items according to type in inventory/chests, all structures are an odd number of squares wide/tall (except portals -.-), I use stairs down to bedrock in mines and only place torches on the right side in caves (that just helps finding the way back out though).

I can't believe I never saw this topic before. If you ask anyone who plays with me, I'm major OCD on a lot of things. But some of you are worse, I will try and build a building so the torches are evenly placed, but if I can't then I deal with it. When I cut underground corridors, they will be fixed with smooth stone where there is dirt, gravel, etc. I don't like using a lot of cobblestone either, but it is how I get started, but I will come back and replace it later, no matter how big the building is. I place tools torches and the like in certain areas, no need to show, but point is, I do it consciously, and if they aren't in the right order, I have to go back and fix them. My biggest OCD item is I have this weird order I do things in, or lets call it a reward system. Example, I will not build a diamond pick, or enchant table, or use diamonds period, until I have at least 20 or so, then I will allow myself to make a pick and go mine some obsidian for a enchant table. Here is the catch though, I can't build the table, until the enchant library is created, only then can I build and place the table. Then I can't go into the nether until I have the area done where the portal is going to go, then when I get to the nether, I have to build a nice size fort around the portal, fill it with storage chests, put windows and doors in it, then I can go explore the nether, lol. I had to build a huge lab and have everything set up before we went in search of a new nether ruin for the warts so we could brew potions, just want things done in some kind of order, it takes a lot of patience, most people just run head long into a those situations. I have to have a room or building for everything, some pics of our barn and greenhouse and you get the idea, oh, it can't be small either. I think this OCD was born out of unsuccessful trips mining in caves and the nether. I always make sure my base is secure, I have tons of food, many supplies, I mean chests full of stuff before I go off and look to do new things. I think it gives you a better chance to succeed at whatever you are doing, and if you do fail, no biggie, you have plenty more.
This is not a brag, just to show you that I cannot have a house with a little underground garden, or a sheep pen, just can't do anything the simple fun way, all the way down to the damn floor patterns, it is a disease, lol.
I always build a little shed over my caves.. And i never place torches on the floor.. I hate doing that becuase i think it looks bad.
I actually use floor and wall placement when exploring caves. When I reach a dead end, I go back and place a torch on the floor. So whenever I see torches on the floor I know I don't need to continue that way, because it only leads to a dead end. Very practical.
I really hate torches on the floor too, but when I'm constructing big buildings I have to do that until they are ready for the true lighting they will get. Too many monsters the other way, but it drives me nuts to have to do it, as you see in the pics, it is one of the only things I let slide until I'm ready for the good lighting.
I always have to dump rotten flesh from my inventory. I know rotten flesh has it's uses, but I don't need massive amounts of it and I don't like the thought of carrying it around for some reason.
I have a dungeon that was found on the surface in the desert on my map, which happens to spawn tons of zombies. I built a building with several kill devices, such as retracting roof segments to let in light, a whirlpool kind of thing and massive full auto arrow dispensers which I turn on from the control panel/viewing window. Since I don't have any mods installed in MC, I have to click on the arrow 64 times each for every dispenser installed. That's apparently another OCD thing is I HAVE to load at least one slot with a full 64 items. I have around 36 dispensers I believe--I'm not at home right now to confirm.
Basically, I need to hurry up and collect the arrows before they disappear so I don't have to start loading from scratch again. While collecting the arrows I pick up a ton of rotten flesh. Ugh!!! I need to install the Too Many Items mod if I will continue doing stuff like this.
