(fast and easy implementation, few bugs, might get it faster)
Hardcore mode has already been mentioned and I wanted to add a few ideas that require a MINIMAL amount of coding ONLY, so that it's easier to implement quickly and relatively bug-free.
Hardcore mode(s):
-Hunger: I love this idea. Take regular health damage if you don't eat.
-If you take fall damage you can sneak walk only until you eat
-If you take mob damage by a spider, you are poisoned and must eat a certain kind of food to stop the poison effect (flower? )
-Landslides on your head are instant death (This would also stop the clipping cheat where you can peek underground)
-If you don't wear armor in snow you take regular cold damage
-Touching lava is instant death
-If you catch fire it doesn't go out on it's own
-You sink in water while wearing armor (can't swim, must remove armor if sinking)
-Bows diminish over time like swords
-Prepared food spoils over time (uncooked food spoils quickly)
-Eating uncooked food has a chance to harm you
-Play the Green Record to win (requires extensive and dangerous gameplay to achieve this feat)
Oh and I forgot the most important one.
-Once you start a game in Hardcore mode, you can't change the game to Peaceful.
-And if you die the world deletes itself. (Notch's idea!)
LOL nice :wink.gif: I tried to tailor the list realistically to something that would take advantage of current logic in their code. Fire damage hits/time interval, so hunger could be a slow-burn. And poison even slower. "Sneaking" is already coded and would just be 'triggered' by taking falling damage... and so on. Notch seems to have a little fun throwing danger our way, and the survivalist junkies out there (me included) thrive on a sweaty, wide-eyed, white-knuckled challenge.
You forgot the greatest, and probably hardest addition.
Teh Zombehs kill teh Blox.
:/ it's essential. Oh, and mob detection range increased from 16 to 32! So they see you from farther. Skeleton arrows slow you down, due to the bony spikes on said arrows latching into your soft flesh (Ow!), and creepers multiply when exploding....
