After 10:30 PST, my IQ drops to around that of a shovel, please disregard anything I say after aforementioned time, it will likely not make any sense, and is best ignored.
What Minecraft looks like 10 years from now wont matter because nobody will be playing minecraft.
This. Who still plays DDR, Runescape, Counter-strike 1.6, warcraft RTS...etc.? Some hardcore fans, or people that used to play all the time and a friend has it on.
Like it or not, Minecraft is indeed a trend. It has all the signs.
No advertising needed, still a huge, dedicated fanbase, already people complaining about features, indie media coverage...
When something gets a "Top 15 ways to tell if you are a ______ addict," article on a website, its just the flavor of the week, so to speak. I bet MC will be around for a few years, in a few iterations, and then when development is abandoned some dedicated followers will keep it alive. Anyone who ever played Tanarus, Cosmi Rift, Infantry, or anything like that can attest. Then there were complete remakes of games for those who couldn't access it anymore. Stepmania for DDR, Frets of Fire for guitar hero, so on. The good thing is, Notch seems to have taken preventative measures by IMMEDIATELY embracing mods and custom features, instead of awaiting the outcry for permission.
Top two computer games in 2001 were "The Sims" and "Roller Coaster Tycoon".
Of course, Minecraft isn't anywhere near one of the top games this year. 10 years from now, people may remember Minecraft as the beginning of a genre, but I imagine that we'll be laughing at how silly it was for us to be wasting time with such a game.
I'd agree if I wasn't a regular player of Garrysmod since 2004.
Itll look the same, just a ton more features and more things to do. Probably a lot more mobs and animals, and im guess dungeons and towns as well as weather.
- Robot creation with Iron and Redstone.
- Motorized boats with redstone.
- Hierarchy system in SMP
- Watergates
- Built in traps that are camo'd.
- Actual elevators with the use of redstone.
- Different arrows for different amounts of damage. (Flint=Gold<Iron<Diamond<Obsidian
- Obsidian items that require you to craft in lava.
- Hostile NPC's that destroy random blocks and create things until they see you and defend their creations.

Uncle tells son that he got text message. Son is all like lol whut Notch trollin ? He goes to the Arcade and puts a quarter into computer and it comes out of disk tray. He goes to pick it up noticing the floor has curves and he moves the computer and sees room. He walks down the stairs and see a ipad sitting on desk. He touches the ipad and laser beam turns on and zaps him into Mincecraft where Notch's perfect clone that looks similar to a creeper tried to make perfect minecraft world.

THis actually seems pretty accurate up until about 2018
anyway, Minecraft will never completely die.
One day, in 2552, people will look back on it, and remember it as one of the first of its kind...Notch will be in the museum of moving image, hailed as one of the greatest indie developers, a self made one man company. Yep.
They'll feature minecraft in the archives, free to visitors to experiment in, see what we saw. Until the trial period ends anyway. Then they'll turn around and see
And somewhere in the sky, we will all hear Notch trololololing his head off.

Actually, that's the best mental image ever. A dying, drowning man stuffing his face from a massive wall of cake, and carving out a monstrous underwater cake picture. I'd pay to watch that irl.
