So, I assume others have trouble with this. Using a six year old VAIO laptop means major lag. Does anyone have any methods of getting minecraft to run faster?
EDIT: Windows 7 is the OS.

Have you tried opening the task manager, finding the process Minecraft runs on (I'm assuming Java, I don't have a premium account yet) and setting the priority to high? Also, run a disk cleanup if you haven't done that in a while.

I'm the only one out of all my internet friends without Minecraft. Well darn.

My laptop makes minecraft really laggy but what works for me is turning the graphics to fast and adjusting the rendering, far or normal for walking and exploring and short or tiny for working in one place.
