Not sure why the pictures are so much blurrier than usual, but it will do.
As you can see, those are the general areas I plan for the town to be, a harbor, and farmland (basically, lots of grass areas fenced off). Oh, and the kingdom walls too.

QUESTION...I need an idea for a spiral staircase that goes up a 25D tower, preferably a subtle staircase but I can't seem to hack one out...
I liked the way way my spiral staircase came out for the peak tower of my castle, but I don't think it would work for much else. I think a good spiral staircase for anything other than going up to a single room would be something that utilizes stair blocks rather than half step blocks.
For something small I would go for a stair blocks on the sides of a central pillar, and a level block on the corners.
I’m back with an update! A colossal amount of landscaping has been done (again), but not much else (again), but the area around the castle is just SO much smoother now!
I cut off entire mountaintops, added bushes to the castle courtyard (wasn’t easy doing it legit!), covered up a lot of the gravel area next to my castle. I also decided that I’m going to make a river going from that area to the harbor area.
Still alive, working on my map.
Though, I have been playing Minecraft exponentially less.
I've added a small bathroom to the first floor of the castle. I've worked on the walkway that will lead to the village (so it's lit so that people can go there safer during night). Also, I cleared the majority of the trees on the island. I'll replant them when that area is considered close to 'done'.
Also, got someone to join my on the small home server I setup, but as I feared, it lagged horribly for anyone other than myself. So, offers for people to play on my little server with me has retracted (though, I do still have the system, so if people want to tour it without downloading my map, they could do so upon request).
In other news, I also manged to die, and then a creeper explode on my dead body, destroying everything I dropped (skeleton hit it before I died, so it bombed on my corpse). So yeah... that sucked..
Any progress on your castle? I know my creative tank ran dry and my castle sits unfinished right now as I tackle smaller projects.
I haven't done much. The most significant thing I did was build a fenced off ranch with a small building, and a walkway from the castle to it.
I have thought of multiple buildings to add to the map, but I haven't been playing minecraft too much. The biggest construction that I have planned is the outside walls, but I don't even have the foundation for them up yet. I've collected tons of stone, but the locations are all jacked up.
I actually do have some news now. I've converted the plans for the underground minecart transit under the castle into a grand entrance to an effing gigantic maze I mentioned over in another thread.
I just finished making the bottom perimeter for the maze, and the scope of it is twice as long as the entire castle.
Edit: Made myself a little banner as well, so that I don't simply have a little text url on my signature.
If anyone wants to use it here's the code, though I'm not sure why you would want to. Regardless, here you go.
I've been working a ton on the maze - I had been holding off on it for the longest time until I had more done on the kingdom and have it as a sidetrack of the underground minecart transit, but I got tired of drudging up landscape. So here's the scope of the maze. It's completely underground and accessed from the former minecart transit entrance (the door to which was located in the basement of the castle).
Here's a picture of the grid of the maze (it's one line short though, what's shown is 41x33, the maze is 42x33).
The size of each block will be 3x3, and the walls just being 1. In total, that's 168x132 blocks, plus 1 for the outer wall, is 169x133 blocks. It's also 3 blocks tall - I've already carved out the entire perimeter of the maze underground - It's gigantic.
Here's a little section of what the maze will look like when you're inside.
All of the redstone within the maze will be toggleable on/off via a switch at the beginning of the maze. The entire maze will be lined with obsidian, so that it's safe to fight mobs there without risk of creepers blowing holes in the walls. The floor will have obsidian just below the surface so that you can see the floor easily and not fall through to the wiring below in case of an explosion.
Next time I post I'll include an updated file save and some pictures of the maze's progress.
I got the goods this time. Pictures of the maze and the all important download. Also included a picture of the ranch which I neglected to include in the last post.
I've made some gridlines and made the perimeter, but I've barely even scratched the surface. There is SO much left to hollow out of the maze, and then I've got to carve out a 'basement' of the maze to house the on/off circuitry of the of the lights. It's sure to keep me busy for a very long time, considering I'm doing it without hacking or editing.
I took a break from working on anything and decided to take a look at the outlying lands of the kingdom - turns out the landscape is pretty epic. The north is an extremely mountainous forest, the east is filled with snow, turned out to be an elongated island. The southeast and southwest are split into two, and theres a grand desert in the southwest. Unfortunately, the desert to the west turned out to be rather small, and I didn't find a nearby ocean. I was hoping my kingdom would be more in an island situation, not so surrounded by continents.
Anyways, I included some pictures and an updated cartograph g (stopped using topographical and regular cartograph, I'll be using this as my standard mapping program).
Great stuff - I really like the size and scale of this project, pretty epic. However, it could use some work from an aesthetic point of view. It's very plain, both in the castle blueprint and in the texture. By texture I mean there is too much stone - breaking it up a little would make it more visually appealing and realistic looking.
Chalk this one up as finished and go build another, asymmetrical castle in the mountains - and keep sharing with us!
Please give me a download link. I want to play on that castle so bad!
Unfortunately, my world has gotten past 700 MB. When the castle's in a finished state, I might figure out which chunks it's in and see if I can pull them out of the save.

True, there are some spots that are rather bland, but I haven't thought of anything fitting to put in the places - do you have an suggestions?
As for just calling it finished, I just couldn't do that. I'm using this world as my base of operations, and the central kingdom is just the starting point. For the size of the planned kingdom, yeah the castle is starting to become a little diminutive (small). I've thought about taking the entire castle and walls, and relocating them to another corner of the world and building a new undeniable epic castle in it's place, but that bugs me to do so, since I don't like to hack or edit in my main world.

Nice castle. I found that my castle started to look nicer when I started following the terrain, like real-world castles do:

Sorry for the night shots
That castle's pretty epic - and yeah, that's what I plan on doing with my own outside walls. I've been putting off building the outside walls because the landscape isn't as ideal as I'd like it to be (and use that as an excuse to not play as much). I guess I could take that as a note to 'stop ****ing with the landscape'.
In any case, I'm still working on my maze, I've been looking forward to it for a long time. It doesn't necessarily relate directly to the castle, but it's worth sharing as it's going to be in the same world.
I've been working feverishly on the maze. I've already invested a number of hours digging it out (though, admittedly, a lot of the time was spent mindlessly digging while I watch youtube - I ended up changing my skin to a zombie because of it).
Anyways, here's a picture that represents what I've done.
It's pretty easy to figure out. The red spots are the start/end, and the gray grid is the normal maze grid, the shown parts being the area that I've already dug out (mostly - there is even more I've dug out due to natural caves, but I didn't note it). I removed the walls to keep the layout of the maze a secret for now. I've also dug out a lot more to put in some of the lighting circuitry.
Well, I was carving under the maze to place some more circuitry, but I hit a huge snag for the maze. I ran out of redstone dust, and I barely have even one gridline of lights laid. I might have to go cave spelunking for a while (I find that more entertaining than strip mining - which is what I'm already doing in my maze all the time, so I have enough of that).
Also, while drudging up lava in a cave to make my obsidian flooring, I found some lapiz lazuli for the first time! Yay! - I've found less of that than diamonds.
Yes, I most definitely do plan on making a village near the castle.
I made this picture a couple posts ago.
