Screw Nintendo. Minecraft on real consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3 would be much better.
One other problem with a PSP, however, is that Minecraft would take up too much space. Generated maps can easily get up to 4 gb, more space than standard PSPs have. The PSP Go would have a memory stick large enough to run Minecraft, especially with PSN selling it. I could only see some sort of infdev-ish version of Minecraft running on a PSP-3000.

Those with "Omg PSP plz" and "No PSP, 3ds only" you guys are faggots. Seriously, why not have it on all consoles? Why would you want a game to NOT be on a specific console?
What is the absolute reason NOT to have it on a console that YOU don't OWN or LIKE?
I want it to be on all consoles where the entire world can play together. Sure there will be griefers and stuff but that's why there is a black/whitelist.
I own a PSP, PC and a iPod Touch, I played the Xbox 360, DS and Wii, and all I have to say is I love these consoles, just that I hate how everything is exclusive as ****.

I don't even WHO and WHY thought of an idea of splitting gaming and a normal computer. Everything is so much easier on the computer, and there are much more functions. Yet again, no support for console versions (they will also have to be written from scratch) because it is completely useless.
ok, I found this thread and felt that I should contribute to it(yes, first time registering, first post, etc etc). I've been playing Minecraft(survival) for about a month or 2 now, so if I missed anything feel free to add on to it by replying to the thread.

Those of you that said to put something other than movement controls on the psp for triangle, square, circle, or X have most likely never played a "First Person" game on the psp before. The problem is you can't just say "oh this button should be this!", you need to think about the design ergonomically.
So I'm going to breakdown my idea for the design and show you my idea for this design.
#1 controller structure
-----------------------
First of all, its important to point out that the PC, xbox 360, ps3, and wii(classic controller) all have more buttons than the psp. This is especially a problem with analog sticks since the psp has only one analog stick to use. The aiming controls need to be "free form" and allow you to point in any angle within 360 degrees of vision. This means that you cannot use triangle, square, X and circle to aim because you will only point in 8 directions(up, down, left, right, up-right, up-left, down-right, down-left) as opposed to an analog stick which can point in 360 different directions(one point for each degree in a circle). Note: This holds true to the "mouse" as well since it allows 360 degree field of vision.
Therefore:
analog stick = aim
#2 Movement Control scheme
---------------------------
In order to design this ergonomically, if the analog stick on the psp is for aiming, then triangle, square, X, and circle should be for movement controls. Since the D-Pad is directly above the analog stick this is just impractical. I mean... what are you going to do? use your index finger for d-pad and thumb for analog stick??? I don't think so... That just hurts thinking about it. That means, walking forward, backward, and side to side are reserved for the "opposite side" of the aiming controls(aka triangle, square, X, and Circle).
triangle = walk forward
X = walk backward
square = strafe left
circle = strafe right
Granted, I realize that the ps3, xbox 360, and wii(classic controller) generally put their aiming controls on the right side and the movement on the left side. But the psp doesn't have a "right" analog stick, and we really can't fix that without modding the psp physically or something... Thus, you just sorta have to "get used to it".
Unfortunately, "First Person" shooters/games pretty much suck on the PSP(in my opinion) because of this analog stick limitation. The one FP game I did try("Coded Arms"), I absolutely hated cause of the aiming controls. Until I discovered a setting that let me use the analog stick to aim and the triangle, square, X, circle buttons to move. Then it turned out to be "ok", but still not perfect. Thus my references in previous statements why I think it should be this way.
#3 Action buttons
-----------------
Ok, so, if the analog stick is aiming, and the triangle, circle, square, X buttons are movement then what about the other stuff?
well, this is somewhat up for debate as different people may have different control scheme ideas. But here's what im thinking...
The only buttons available at this point would be D-pad, 2 triggers, start and select. which means we only really have 2 buttons(the triggers) that we can use while running and looking around. So here's what I propose.
(note: these could probably be switched? up for debate.)
Left Trigger = Jump
Right Trigger = Left Click(destroy block, use equipped tool)
This will allow you to jump while running and "steering" which direction you go. And this will also allow you to destroy blocks or use tools as necessary while moving. But what about using a block? such as a furnace or chest? well, you don't HAVE to move/aim when your using blocks like that, so thats what the d-pad is for.
d-pad up = Right Click("use item")
d-pad down = toggle crouch
d-pad left = switch item left
d-pad right = switch item right
setting up the control scheme like this will allow us to utilize chests, furnaces, doors, etc without too much issue. It’s "not as important" to “move/aim and use an item” than it is to “aim and jump” or “aim and destroy a block or mob”.
Crouch should be a "toggle" based button in this case if your going to be able to aim and crouch at the same time.
Also, in Minecraft the interface allows for a "row of items" along the bottom for easy access, the left and right d-pad controls should let you switch between these items for ease of use. Plus, it’s not that important to move and switch items at the same time anyway(though nice to have).
#4 But wait, what about inventory?
----------------------------------
start=menu
select=inventory
while in the inventory screen, you could potentially use the d-pad to navigate through the different squares in your inventory and then use X to pickup an item to move to different slots. you could also have a seperate "drop slot" added so that if you place an item in the drop slot you will drop that item.
Im sure there are other games that do a similar thing like this, but the one that comes to mind is "Shining Soul" or "Shining Soul II" for the Gameboy Advance. Idk if you know what that game is... but if you don't im sure the previous description I already gave you will suffice.
#5 what about other settings? graphics/fog?
-------------------------------
I did notice some people mentioned having buttons set graphics quality or "fog". Honestly, I don't think its really necessary to do that within the level itself by a "button press". Why not just include those as settings in the "options..." menu. That would make things a whole lot simpler and use less buttons. After all, The PSP only has so many buttons to choose from.
------------------------
Woah.... too much reading?!?! *Brain overload*...
OK OK OK!!! Fine... Have it your way...
To make it easier on you, here's my controls summary:
analog stick = aim
triangle = walk forward
X = walk backward
square = strafe left
circle = strafe right
Left Trigger = Jump
Right Trigger = Left Click
d-pad up = Right Click("use item")
d-pad down = toggle crouch
d-pad left = switch item left
d-pad right = switch item right
start=menu
select=inventory
All other settings would go into a "options..." menu to be set by the player.
This is just the controls I would suggest. But just in case you should definitely include a menu that lets the user map the controls he/she wants to use.
-----------------------
Disclaimer: I'm sure somebody out there probably disagrees with my ideas and will probably rip this to shreds. But you need to keep in mind that these are all "opinions" and "up for debate". Its not like I'm forcing you to use my control scheme. In fact, you could probably set the control scheme in the "options..." menu for all I care. These are just my ideas as expressed as an avid PSP user(and modder/programmer).
---
Further Notes: I also noticed people mentioned the other consoles in this thread. However, this thread is supposed to be about the PSP and a "portable" version of minecraft. So while there are control schemes that work on the other consoles, I felt that it was un-necessary to explain them in order to "stay on topic".

I've played minecraft before using my psp as a wireless joystick while lying on my bed watching it on the tv, using WiFiController on my CFW PSP,using http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/scripts/ ... kMouse.htm an autohotkey script, and a joy to key program I cannot remember. It was not fun, the controls are awkward as **** and it takes longer to do anything.
I'll try to give a rundown of my controls and why.
The Home,Volume,Screen Brightness,Music keys are not allowed to be used in WiFiController. So I was stuck with 12 buttons and 2 axes.
Looking - Analog Stick - Obvious
Going Forward - Right trigger - Won't hurt you after holding for 1 or 2 hours
Jumping - Left trigger - Also won't hurt after using for multiple hours Sneak Going Backwards - Down Arrow - Comfortable to hold while analog stick was next to it
Strafe Left and Right - Left and Right Arrow - I seriously avoided strafing at almost all costs
Drop Singular Item - Up Arrow - When do people ever seriously drop SINGULAR items?
Left Click - X - It's again comfortable, and a primary attack or key in most PSP games
Right Click - O - It's a secondary attack in most games
Inventory - Square - Easy to access to enter the inventory
Main Menu - Triangle - I have a main menu key because I as well controlled my PC from my bed while watching this all on my TV.
Scroll Forward and Backwards Through Items - Select and Start - They are at bottom of PSP, items are at bottom of game, they seem like good left and right buttons.
Those were the most comfortable controls and it still took pretty much twice as long to do anything in minecraft you could do normally, but hey at least I could play from my bed.
PS: I will try to get the whole set up working again and I will post a video on youtube PPS: I would have to disable driver signing on my PC and go through about 2 hours of work all for nothing, screw it. PPPS:
