If that number sounds familiar, thats because that is the explosive yeild of the little boy bomb dropped on hiroshima. Using volume and weight calculations, I took the time to find out how much that would be in minecraftian TNT, the answer? roughly 15,000 blocks, arranged in a 25 by 25 by 25 cube. Once set off, the server died, all connected were DC'd in a flash of bright and incredible deadly internet light. Two hours later the server finished (by finished, we mean gave in and allowed enough resources to be used to let people log on), people emerged. Twenty minutes later the brick rendering finally finished. The result was devestating.
a view from the obsidian detonation bunker:
from the very lowest point, were roughly anywhere from 10 to 20 blocks from bedrock
At one of the lowest points in the trinity crater, a memorial was errected in rememberance of this fate filled day.
I do not know what weapons we will fight World War 3 with, but World War 4 will be fought with stone picks and creepers.
the view port of the obsidian bunker, take note, this WAS ground level on a totally flat plane:
It was literaly a 25 by 25 by 25 cube on completely flat ground, I dont have any pre blast screenshots but I will have a cartography shot of the area soonish. The pre set up picture was taken and it has the stone set up I have of the x,y,z plane lengths and estimated size. Originaly I had an obsidian line running under it so I could get out while I still could. I realized that might interfier with the blast though and took it out. Its all brute force explosives, no spreading out, no fancy shape, just raw force packed into a small (well...not really) cube.
Unfortunately since the last time they did the map, someone wanted to go off on a "Lets walk this way for three hours" adventure, and so the cartographer can only do a top down shot. Still, you can make out what happened.
Seriously, who else want to be able to craft more concentrated explosives after seeing this? Imagine crafting a block with the radio-active symbol on the side. Place it and run a 300m length of redston out to it. Flip the switch... and come back tomorrow when the server catches up. lol.
The largest man-made nuclear explosion was the Tsar Bomb, which was about 50 megatons. The original plans actually called for 100 megatons, but they tuned it down for the test. The bomb was actually so large that it couldn't fit in the bomb bay of the plane carrying it, so they had to tear off the bomb bay doors for the flight.
Also, a 50 megaton nuke means that the blast has (roughly) the same energy release as 50 megatons (million tons) of TNT.
I read that modern day nuclear weapons are somewhere 50 megatons. You created a fantastic hole with 15 kilotons. 50 megatons is ~45 million tons of TNT. Want to try again? :biggrin.gif:
i did one of these witha dirt bunker ... and well .. lets say there aint much of the bunker left xD
i also dug down for about 30 blocks into the ground and jumped + placed tnt up to the top ... i gonna record that and put it on youtube in a short while

Did you get any screenshots of the TNT setup pre-detonation?
Mother of God....
Although personally I am quite content with existing explosives, I feel we must not stand in the path of improvement.
Anyway, Do you have a picture of pre-exploded Dynamite? I'm curious to see how the shape effected the blast radius if at all.
Prepare to get Brunched in the face!
My thoughts exactly!
Just wow.

EXLOPZIONS MAKE MEH HAPPEH.
