Geez, minecraft is giving me serious scares.
Even the epic experience in the school in F.E.A.R 2 didn't give me such paranoia and scares like an unexplored cave with a lot of unexplored and dark ways in minecraft give me.
Nothing compares to the sudden sound of an arrow cutting through the air and racing towards you, or the strange sound of a spider behind you, just for you to turn and don't see anything.
There's nothing like digging a square directly under you and falling to a huge, dark chamber, filled with monster noises.
Notch managed not to just make a survival game, but a creepy game too!
I was re-starting a new World.
I fell into a BIG cave system just as the first night fell upon the land.
I had no wood and no coal -> no torches.
The cave was brimming with monsters. I just sat in a corner hoping they wouldn't notice me, until dawn would break again... I survived, but it was scary as hell. :smile.gif:

I was playing in my single player campaing, made some stone swords and lurked at night on the fields, hunting creepers for powder.
But I forgot to bring torches with me...
Well, so a skeleton was following me and I didn't look where I was walking, and fell on a dark pit... With 2 creepers on it, It was so scary XD but 2 seconds later I was dead lol
I'm not really too bothered by it, because I've already conditioned myself by playing games like Doom, and FEAR, so I'm already used to random things flying at me out of bum-**** nowhere.
I've started digging this cave / mine, and it was late night with my volume relatively high, and suddenly something made a real creepy noise. It's now called the creepy cave. Happened 3 times that night Y_Y
Minecraft managed to do what other games that call themself "horror games" couldn't.
It scared me.
Minecraft is a 1000 times scarier then any F.E.A.R or Amnesia, mainly because in Minecraft no events are pre-made scenarios that were created by a programmer. In Minecraft, everything feels much more real, and much more dangerous.
Minecraft is the epitome of the Survival Horror genre.

The sound that always makes me jump is the twang of a bow coming out of the darkness. It makes me yelp every damn time.
TOTALLY AGREE!
I'm exploring some cave, and come to a dark, dark passage... there's silence for a while... but then... ARROW SOUND!
It makes me **** my soul
I was exploring a deep cave system one time and heard the rattle of a skeleton but ignored it cause I thought it was just coming from the other side of the wall. Two seconds later I hear a Ssssssss and turn around in time to see a creeper who's already setting off and a skeleton drop from the top of the cave right in front of me. I literally jumped in my chair while being shot by an arrow and blown up at the same time. Needless to say I died.
And I too agree, random arrows never fail to at least startle me sometimes even make me jump. Damn skeletons.
My favorite scary event so far was deep down in a mine, I heard the monsters but could not see them so continued with my work. I would scan the area every once in a while just to checked, and could not see anything. I then turned around to head back the other way and a zombie was standing right there looking at me. It was so unexpected, scared the **** out of me, I turned to run real quick and ended up falling in a hole right into some lava.
Zombie 1, Me 0
First time playing survival mode, and I was cowering in the middle of my dirt house, trying to watch all of the walls at once, and thinking the zombies would break through my walls any second (I didn't know they couldn't break stuff). Suddenly, I got hit by something in my back, turned around, and was met by a creeper. I was so scared I literally jumped out of my chair, and when I finally came to my senses, I was down to half health. Then I started punching him, only for him to explode and kill me.
And that's my first day of survival.

I bet you were expecting something interesting here...
HA ha me to i was just mining, minding my own business, but i ran low on pick axes, so i went back i saw a creeper jump down my ladder and explode near me. I had 3 hearts left so i started rushing trying to get to my ladder back up and then a skeleton pops out of nowhere and starts to open fire. BTW i had lit up the entire cave before this, meaning that a skeleton and a creeper had both spawned behind me in torch light.
Minecraft is by far the scariest game I've ever played. The fact that the world is randomized and enemies can spawn anywhere in darkness adds to the fear factor. Most other games have enemies on set routines and placements, ultimately making the game predictable. I play with the volume loud too, so when I hear a Skeleton shoot at me, it usually makes me jump.
and "Aww the Green creatures look so cute, it's daytime they must be harmless. Maybe I should go pet it..." *BOOM*
Reminds me of my first night of minecraft. I had gather wood and dug into the side of a hill for a bit...but forgot to get coal! So my first night in M.S. was spent look through a one block hole I used as my door looking at the moon with complete darkness all around me praying for night to end and nothing to spawn behind me. Oh and there were monster noises
