Yeah when I first saw Minecraft I played the free version and was addicted. Then when I saw the premium one I pirated it and fell in love. I bought Minecraft as soon as I got the money and am now spreading Minecraft to everoyne I can lol
Everyone who's pirating it: you're basically inhibiting development of Minecraft.
Inhibiting it how? The sole developer of this game is making a killing off of it so far. If the stats are to be believed, he's making around $75,000 USD every 24 hours. In one month he could make enough to keep a pretty reasonably sized development team for a year. Very few indie projects are this successful. I wouldn't say development is inhibited in the slightest.
Not that I'm condoning piracy, but at least try to make claims that sound reasonable. Extra points if you do your research and are actually correct with your claims.

Playing games with integrated graphics is like going on the Autobahn in a tricycle.
A fair amount of people who pirate the game keep saying they have money, but can't buy the game because they don't have PayPal. Those people are full of ****, and aren't looking around at other options well enough.
I pirated this game, while I am not proud, I am not ashamed.
A few days later I put it on top of my list of games to buy that I pirated.
A few days after that I bought it.
I pirated then bought it because my friends were playing it, and I wanted to try it.
I do not know whether they had pirated it or not, but if they had, the pirate community gains Notch customers.
Cause the ones who pirate it and don't buy it probably wouldn't have bought it anyway.

Music, Games, Sport are part of life!! (Partying is a sport )
When a butterfly leaves the safety of its cocoon, does it realise how beautiful it has become? Or does it still just see itself as a caterpillar?
I personally only pirate when I had already bought a game a long time ago and can no longer find the disk (Serious Sam) but I always thought game pirates were all douches who are mad because they were poor. I thought that up until I read OP and realized that I originally thought that since only the real douches enjoy admitting they stole it. I learned something today.
Its technicly not illegal to download an ISO, ROM, or Song from the internet of you own the disk, cartrage, or CD (as long as you don't redistribute it). I do this all the time when I want to make videos of older games but I don't have the system. Go to the antique gamestore near my place buy the game, then download the ROM to record.

No, it's still illegal to download the game even if you already own it. The only way you can get away with digital copies of roms, isos, mp3s is either you buy it from the company or you back it up yourself and still can be used on the device it was intended.
I didn't pirate minecraft (when I paid there were no mining pirates) but im sure many do cause:
They don't have paypal
They don't have a credit card
Their parents are paranoid
They are trying the game
The 3rd one is okay now to the other 3 I suggest that Notch should include other payment options. INCLUDING PaySafeCard for those that don't have a credit card and things like that. If he did at least 3 of my friends would buy it.
NOTCH DO IT. IM SICK OF HAVING MY FRIENDS BOTHERING ME TO PLAY!

In a Sony v. Universal court case declared that it is legal to make a ROM of a cartage or download a backup that you own to use on an emulator. As long as you do not Commercial distribution, sell the roms (require pay for said rom), or buy the ROMs from some one who is doing one of the two previous things.
This is why Sites like romulation has not been shut down, even thought Nintendo has requested that they removed the NDS ROMS from the site (which they did). They still hold GBA, GBC, GB, n64, SNES, and other roms and isos. Unlike how other rom sites which require you to pay to become a member has been completly shut down in the past. Romulation does have a members section, but it isn't exlcusive to members is what I mean on that last part.
Pirating is just a new form of loaning and borrowing. The writers Charles Stross, Cory Doctorow, and John Scalzi all give stuff away for free and found that it probably increased their sales ("probably" meaning there's no way to test this empirically short of spinning off a new universe in which they didn't give away stuff for free and comparing the two universe's sales). Neil Gaiman said it too: you don't often buy a fiction book unless you've read the author before and one way a lot of people find a new author is when someone loans them a book.
Jack White was cool with a stranger laying down a drum track to the White Stripes albums and redistributing it. I believe Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead are pretty cool about giving their stuff away for free, too. These are the artists, and the ones who don't sue their fans, who are going to survive when the music industry as it exists today chokes itself off into technological insignificance. (Of course, this is all just my opinion.)
Having said that, I didn't pirate Minecraft and I haven't pirated a game since I was a poor teenager (it was Deus Ex, which I bought twice in the time since). Now I'm a poor adult, but since I have no kids and no wife, I go ahead and purchase games even though I still can't really afford them. Frankly, I got sick of all the blogs I read cramming Minecraft down my throat and decided to give it a test drive. I have never pulled my credit card out quicker for a game in my life. People who pirate THIS game and don't buy it ought to have their heads checked.
I think minecraft being on steam would hugely benefit it. A lot of my friends have steam accounts and would rather buy games on there than on some random website with a paypal account.
I am and always have been a dirty nazi pirate, and played the pirated version or some weeks. I really wanted to pay for minecraft from the beginning, but don't have a credit card. I bought it last month with my gran's credit card.
I'm happy to support Notch (and friends).
The other stuff you get with premium is just a bonus.

The act of online piracy has been on a rise since the internet became popular, and I personally believe this has given way to a significant proportion of the spread of goods and services bartered over the Internet. By piracy spreading the overall usage of digital goods, the exposure and viral aspect of said goods spreads and extends that utility beyond the value of a single purchase of said digital good or service. Cow Shlong. Take the record market for example, without piracy spreading the titles of some bands, there would be significantly less people sharing music to other potential customers. Less spreading = less purchasing = less revenue.
Although piracy trades a bit less purchasing for more spreading, that spreading leads to more purchasing than the initial purchasing hit to begin with, and thus ultimately leads to higher revenue. Think of it as an investment of sorts, though a forced one.

I've done a similar thing ^^, My friends were interested in the game so i let them try it out for awhile and they really enjoyed it one of them pirated it as well but they couldn't buy it ( no Credit cards) So i ended up buying it for my 3 friends, i think the games worth it and everyone should have a chance to play it.
They don't have paypal check
They don't have a credit card check Their parents are paranoid CHECK They are trying the game CHECK
last one was the first one i did after i saw more and more videos popping up and decided im gonna have to try it, and with my parents thinking that giving anything about you out on the internet (like the last letter of your name, (exaggeration for those with the broken sarcasms :wink.gif: ) even so i wanted to know if i was gonna like it before i went through the effort of convincing them, so i pirated it and within 20 mins i was already, masterminding my evil ploy to get them to buy it for me.

Like this.
You could either be to young, not buy enough online to bother, or many different reasons.
