I have been on many servers where people created what looked to be perfect round balls. I wanted to know if there is some guide on how to make a large ball out of blocks? I looked all over the internet and could not find a step by step guide.
Maybe someone can teach me how to make some? I really want to make a big planet. =D
Remember that all slices of a sphere are perfect circles. In order to make the perfect sphere, start with circles at the widest parts of the sphere, then slowly work your way to the edges, decreasing the radius as you go. I usually just make the 3 major circles and eyeball it from there, though with larger spheres you might need more guides.
This is a chart on how to create circles as perfect as you can. The numbers represent the diameter of the corresponding circle.
If you want to create a ball, the easiest way would be to create a vertical ring using the chart, and then create a horizontal ring with the same middle point as the vertical one.
From there, I can't really explain how you should do it, but if you understand shapes, it shouldn't be too hard.
I'll try (I hope I don't blow it, heh). Spheres really aren't that hard once you get the hang of them. The real fun lies with going deep underground and hollowing out a large sphere without using Worldedit or some other editing program. Anyway...
Once you make the vertical ring, start making horizontal rings at each level above and below the first horizontal ring (which I'll call the equator for simplicity's sake). At each level, the edge of the vertical ring would represent the diameter of the horizontal ring for that level.
For instance, suppose you want to make a sphere with a 25 block diameter according to the picture. The rings on the first three levels above and below the equator would be a 25 block diameter. The next 2 would be 23 blocks. The next two after that would be 21 blocks. Then 19, 17, 13, 11, and finally 7.
That chart is wonderful though. I'm going to print it out. Because sometimes I need to make half circles and other things, it will help greatly.
And I don't eally know how to explain it, but if you just keep at it, keep trying to make circles, balls, and curves in this game. Eventually your brain will figure it out, and you will not need editors, charts, etc. You will just know how to do it. Kinda like algebra. Eventually you just get it.
can you make this chart with bigger circles as well? that would be awesome.
You can do it yourself! Here's how:
1. Open MS Paint
2. Press CTRL+E (this opens the Image Properties window)
3. Set the width and height (in pixels) to the diameter of your circle, i.e. 40.
4. Press OK.
5. Zoom in (CTRL+ scroll wheel up) until you've got it as far in as you need.
6. Choose a Circle from the shapes.
7. Set the line width to 1 pixel
8. Click and hold at the very top left corner (0,0 will show in the staus bar), and drag to the very bottom right corner.
