We are the Newbs. Lower your doors, and surrender your diamonds. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service ours. Resistance is futile.
In all seriousness, think of it this way. Notch made close to 20,000 euros in the space of 24 hours. that's more than some people earn in a whole financial year. i've been through the same change in a number of other communities. it's nothing new, and withan idea as great as minecraft, what was everyone expecting?
true, I saw the TF2 blog and decided to try it out, and absolutely fell in love. so am I a bad person for coming here, finding something that appeals to me and buying it? can you imagine what Notch is now capable of with all that cash flowing in? even if he only keeps half of it, Minecraft is now set for the next few years.
edit - what i mean to say above is, it's cool to have e-friends, but if you can't accept that people can drift apart you're setting yourself up for a whole lot of pain. If you cannot learn to adapt to a changing environment, a pseudo life on the internet, then how do you react in the real world? of course it hurts when your friends dithc you to form a club elsewhere. but heres the thing, if any intend on leaving and they don't leave you a message to keep in contact, maybe you overestimate the relationship you might have had?
Am I just lucky that I've never cared for the forums, I always play on private servers with friends.
Man I remember when Notch had just setup and released the game maybe a week after the fact, ah creative mode was glorious in its early stages lol.
I just want you all to know something: a while ago TF2blog mentioned another game, which some of you may remember: Gang Garrison 2. Now when it happened, we had a major outbreak of new members. Our little community had exploded, tons of questions which we all thought were obvious, people asking for things we had 'stamped out'. But, there is some good news about it: All those new members left for one reason or another. Slowly our community went back to the way it was. Well, mostly. We got a few good members out of all those new ones. So endure, my fellow Minecraftians! This community shall return to it's former state of being!
Ok, ok, games over man. Pack up your stuff, move out. I don't know what you want me to do. All I wanted to do was raise a point. Long story short, I wanted to say that the community is starting to grow too big to be a true community, and at least 20 other people have told me thats wrong. Now, just for a quick second, cut to my perspective. I am now hated by half the members of these forums (so thats just Animator) just to bring you a thread expressing my opinion.

When you raise points, others will point them as well. You can't just stand there, vent your opinion, and just expect people not raise other points based on factual evidence that can go against yours, because that defeats the point of discussion in the first place. You wanted discussion and you got it, you just don't approve that pretty much almost everyone that's posted in this thread does not side with your point of view. I do not sympathize with you.
For another thing, before I posted, there was already a little bit more than 3 pages already repeating what I already said, the only difference is I compiled it into one hell of a wall post. I do not represent the majority of the forums nor their tastes, as I am only 1 out of 11185 (and counting) forum members in this forum. I represent the authority of enforcing the rules. Do not pin this on me just because I am authority or well known. I do not hate you, but if you can't handle the nature of having a discussion without people giving their own opinions besides yours, you can kindly get out.

So let's just get this straight. You gracefully brought us a thread about how "the community is starting to grow too big to be a true community" in the forums, where most of "the community" is. What did you expect, honestly? Yes, you truly are the victim here.
You aren't "hated by half the community." I for one don't hate you, I just think you're incorrect on this matter and are being a little selfish. Don't play the victim just because people called you out on saying the things you said.
No community is perfect. In fact, I would say that the Minecraft community is pretty good by most standards. It has a pretty good track record for dealing with the crap that some members produce. You will still find random spam threads, but you will also find intelligent discussions. You just need to know where to look, and what members have made a better reputation for themselves.
Not only that, admins and moderators such as Animator and LightWarriorK have done a great job handling the flame wars, redundancies, and even crises that have come up in this forum's history. (remember the redstone debate?)
Don't give up on us so easily! We may surprise you.
Moocman, I don't hate you. You and I have built some great things in some great servers, once or twice. I just think you're being a little bit silly about this whole thing. More members isn't *such* a huge deal. Besides, how many of those people are likely to show up here and become regular posters?

The inquisitors were torturing Harry.
First, Ignatius used the rock.
Then Billy asked Harry if he wanted to read his BDSM blog. Harry was so surprised that his pants flew right off. He was wearing women's underpants. The inquisitors were wearing them, too.
I guess you could call me an old-timer. I heard about this game shortly after it was released to the public and bought it along with a friend shortly after that. I poke fun at the new players too, especially the boys and girls at my school that are just now hearing about it, but anything past poking fun at them is quite silly. I'm not saying we should welcome the newcomers with open arms, hugs, and kisses, but it isn't like the wave of the new community sweeping in is directly affecting anyone here, unless you live on multiplayer. Just ignore it.
After reading through this thread it's just absolutely disgusting how elitist some people can be. If it were only you and your elitist secret club members in these forums, playing Minecraft, do you think Notch would have expanded the game so much? You guys are just like /b/ with the oldfag/newfag crap.
It was a joke. I don't hate you guys, you were just expressing your opinion. It just seemed that some people, (and It may have been mostly me that was at fault, I'm not sure) were taking it a bit... too seriously. Yeah, its on the Discussion board, I was expecting people to dislike my opinion. I hope others don't dislike people because of this and their opinions. Sure, when Invertin argues he's an absolute asshole, but he seems like a pretty good guy.
What's with all the necroposting lately? How do people even find these threads without search?
Also, I liked Minecraft better when it was on Vinyl :wink.gif:

This forum ticked me off so much I went to random.org and set my password to something I'll never be able to remember, then switched my password reset to a throwaway.

Stories.
I'm an indie gamer, haven't seen a game like this reach enough popularity to be noticed other than maybe, Noitu Love 2 and Audiosurf.
Popularity is a good thing. Notch gets more money and the vets get to murder n00bl3ts in MP.
Sure there might be more griefers, but I'm sure we can handle that.
Kinda defeating the point of that statement if you're posting it, eh?
Considering it was at the near top of the forum, it wouldn't of mattered much.

I agree, look at what happened to world of goo.
First, Ignatius used the rock.

They realized that they were all men of the lord.

WOW. The admin came and called you out, I think this effectively means you just lost the game.
