Well done everyone. We’ve got onto the TF2 blog. Not entirely because Notch made an awesome game, but because the community has spammed the interwebs with creeper porn, Youtube videos and forum posts. Finally, after all our kicking and screaming, this community has been noticed. But is it for the best?
EDIT: Too much ********.
Now, it seems everyone knows about it. With mentions on the Daily Record, PC Gamer and the TF2 blog, it seems to me that community is going to encounter some big changes over the coming weeks. Before the community was manageable, not too big, not too small... just right. But now, it seems that everyone wants a slice of the “action”, and slowly but surely, the community gets bigger. Before we all got a big slice of Minecraft, but once everyone wants a piece, you end up getting very little. I came to Minecraft, discovering a game that many people have wanted for a long time, a game where you were given actual freedom, not just an “open world” I hoped that the community would not reach this size. The bigger the number, the more griefers we have flock to this game.
EDIT: Believe I missed the point here, this bit is crap.
There's a point when a community stops being a community and something else. I believe, after the TF2 blog went "Look! Heres Minecraft" there are going to be so many people coming to join the community until it STOPS being a community. It may not be that extreme at the moment, but it seems that thats what is going to happen.
No, its not me thats going to leave. It may be other people. I do not want to leave, but I do not want to see a flood of new people I have never seen before. SURE, all those new people may be awesome and cool, etc, and become my new friends, but then hasn't that section of the community broken off? Not pointing the finger at anyone, but look at WoM. They've got their own forums, and the only 3 people from WoM I have ever seen post here are ecrider, Miclee and SMP.
Gone are the days where Notch would reply to almost every email, gone are the days where the Minecraft forums and Wiki wouldn’t lag copiously due to server load, gone are the days where a few people played on few servers, and it was rare to see someone you hadn’t seen before, gone are the days where Minecraft had one big community. .
Boy, i hope you feel ashamed of yourself. Really, you don't like the game but you like the people? Really. Find something more fun to do with your life instead of writing huge threads like a 10 year old. I love the game. Not the people, THE GAME. You should do that too.
You know Moocman, I know exactly how you feel, because you know what? I've been thinking the same thing, I was here before infinite maps, I was here before Infinite maps was even going into motion, lurking around the community without a login, and not actually creating one until a few months back, and I know what you mean by the small group of people that was the community.
Since I've been thinking about it so much though, I realized that with a game like this, a game that's so fun, and anyone can enjoy it, you can't keep it a secret, and you can't not let people play this game, and you can't tell people that they can't talk to their friends about it, because Minecraft is huge, REALLY huge.
Don't give up on Minecraft though, because the way I figure it, once SMP comes around, we can become that small community again, everyone in their own servers, with their own friends and people that they like from the forums, coming together and doing what Minecrafters do best, which is being ****ing bros with each other. So I hope you at least take something from this point of view, and maybe really love Minecraft again.
Also @lolwut0 You can't knock a guy for putting his feelings into his writing, he was showing his point, and just wanted others to know, hopefully to receive supportive feedback.

I like the game, I like Notch's style. I loathe the community.
There is a very small selection of people on this forum that I have respect for.
Knuk, SteGriff, DragoonEnRegalia (left), SteGriff, Dysgalt, Shigan, Emeraldfire7, Evilgrim (left), RealG, Novaok, chezhead and probably a select of others.
A majority of them are old-timers. Infact, all except Shigan are I think.
I'm not budging anyway, I enjoy the game, I'm not going to stop doing what I love because some pretentious brats think they're better than me and have the right to ruin the game for other people.
disliking something based on its popularity is not only stupid, it makes you stupid. wait until things do go bad before you complain.
THIS
I found Minecraft when it was a few days old, and I was active on IRC when multiplayer had just started and the community was really coming together. It was pretty fun.
Now? Minecraft is way more fun and way more popular. THIS IS A GOOD THING. I still recall the original game, and in retrospect it sucks hard compared to Alpha. The popularity gives Notch a REASON to make the game good, and the community exists PRIMARILY to support the game. If you want a Minecraft community that exists purely for itself, go gather a bunch more whiners and make your own forum where you can reminisce about the old, crappier days.
tl;dr: qq moar but for the love of god do it somewhere else
I miss the close-together feeling the community had when I first joined (I used to remember almost everyone's name), but the game is great and getting better, and that's what matters the most.
I am extremely happy for where the game is going. The game is absolutely superb. But lolwut0 you can shut up. Just because my English isn't great, and I had an aim of sharing my thoughts. Every game can be loved or hated because of the people who play it. Take something like... Runescape. I'm sure that was a good game at first, before it started getting filled with 10 year olds. Minecraft, at heart, should by a multiplayer game - it's a sandbox where you build for gods sake. It needs a good community to function. I don't personally want minecraft to become another Runescape despite how good Notch makes it
I am simply asking a question. I want Minecraft to be popular. I've congributed. But is there a point where that much is too much? Already, minepedia is showing signs of stress.

I know how you feel man, but are we supposed to deny people who actually want to play the game? Without the added sales from the first "big push" Minecraft would never of gotten off the ground. And what if you were some of the new kids? Would it be cool if the veterans started shaming you?

Why thank you Ninjarooster
Anywho, I think the game is great, and the community is alright. Sure, it will never be perfect, but we can try right?
Besides, we can always just ignore those who anger us right?
A larger audience doesn't spell the demise of the game OR the community, so long as Notch doesn't let the attention go to his head and keeps up the excellent work on the game itself. This is by far the greatest game I've ever played, even before I knew about all the fancy stuff you could do in the paid version. I had be playing the free version for MONTHS without even knowing there was a difference between them; I just thought you paid to be able to download it and play it without being on the website!
Because of the post on the TF2 blog and all the people talking about it on the official TF2 forums, I purchased the game. And let me tell you, I do NOT spend money on video games on a whim; especially from independent developers. This game is everything I have ever wanted in a video game, and it's not even complete yet.
Besides, it has/will have multiplayer. A multiplayer game can not survive long without a large playerbase, and now you'll be getting a larger playerbase. Exposure is a good thing, in this instance, again, so long as Notch doesn't sell out and change the direction of the work he's done so far. I don't have any fears of that happening anytime soon, and neither should any of you.
I agree with pretty much everything in this thread... In its own way. Except for lolwut0, because I have decided he and I are now mortal ENEMIES. >:ohmy.gif:

I thought it was quite clear. Both those posts show how stupid it is to start hating something just because it's gotten more attention.
