"There is no griefing in Minecraft classic" "The game is about placing and removing blocks. Destroying your stuff for the view is totally fair" "I don't need a reason. It's the game"
Minecraft is a game where you build. I play for building, making nice Constructions/House/City/Castle. It's the main part of the game, and it's where I find the fun.
I don't want to play SMP if someone on the server consider that destroying other peoples stuff, destroying the fun, is normal. Take a look at the 7-8 first server of the Classic multiplayer list. Some of them are abandoned, they are no rules, no op, just an ugly chaos of half-griefed tower. I don't want SMP like that.
If I want war, i'll work on an RP/well made server, were Op and rules ensure that you can PvP without destroying all the game's fun.
Now imagine ... an 128*128 zone surrounded by giant and ugly water wall. Guest zone in SMP ? Oh damn No !Stop encouraging host and dev to do something like that, you will kill a part of the Minecraft's fun.
About land-claim flag, "Wait and see", they could be pretty annoying (An hour to find a little spot/provide that you're not a griefer ... so boring) or become a nice PvP element (a tiny swordfighting before taking a Castle ? Nice. But I don't want that the next owner destroy it and throw the block into lava, this is griefing)
That's an argument that's been going on for fifteen years, and it'll go on for another fifteen.
With half of everyone playing the game to some sort of set goal, (in minecraft? probably building stuff that looks cool.) and another half who play to **** those first people over. Actually it's probably more slanted in favor of the builders, the raiders just tend to be more vocal about it.
Really, the best option is to find a server admin who shares your opinions, and play on his server. Or be a server admin and kick all the griefers out. I don't really know many minecrafting friends, but if you have some good friends, they might do the private server thing.
Minecraft has always been a sandbox game, and I think Notch will simply give us the tools to decide what should and should not be allowed on multiplayer servers. He's putting in land claim flags, but i'd bet that the one running the server will have a say in whether or not you can get them.
There will be hundreds of servers, I'm sure you'll all find one that has the blend of rules and admin intervention for you. All these threads try to find a universal standard for something that, guess what, doesn't need a universal standard.
Besides, if you have any friends whatsoever, just host your own server. If you can't in this day and age find an old computer to use as a dedicated server, that's pretty sad.
In Minecraft, griefing has become much more of a negative connotation that what i'm used to from MMOs - so here i'd call it playing competitively.
What interests me in SMP, are these big towns/empires people have in the works, because I like a bit of a story behind the game. And every story needs a villain :smile.gif:
Repeatedly raiding someone's fort, looting it clean every time they're offline and destroying it down to the foundation, that'd probably be griefing. If you're trying to drive all of the non-raiders off of a server, perhaps that's a way of doing so. But then there's nobody to raid.
Offtopic: pouring vats of molten lava on brigands attempting to breach the walls!
True griefing in SMP, however, was shown in Notch's test server, when the code was leaked to 4chan, and later released, and several people entered the server and proceeded to clearcut and/or burn every tree. Done purely to disadvantage others, with no real benefit to anyone.
I say immersive. It makes raiders think on how to break into the fort, and it makes the defenders think on how to defend the fort other than spamming obsidian as a front wall.
Don't be jealous because our grammar is better than yours.
Also, you call us cunts yet you want to destroy other people's work?
I'm all for PvP, and i'll love destroying peoples stuff. But you made some shitty clan nobody cares about.
Who is the bigger ****?

You are a liar.
When I was on the multiplayer server, one hour after it was leaked, 95% of the people who came in was not griefing. Trees were not burnt down, they were foraged because EVERYONE needed it. We had a castle, many people made themselves homes. I saw NO ONE griefing except for a few people griefing me, because they were my friends. If you want to make random assumptions, don't pull it out of your ass. Not to mention that later on, when he increased the player count, the main island had VERY little trees, not due to griefing, but map generation.
Blame 4chan when you have a reason. You have NO proof that it was 4chan that did such things, IF it even happened. Doing stupid stuff like this is what makes others mad, and give 4chan a bad name.
Additionally, the flag is immune to its own effects. So if you can breach a civilization's walls and get to the place where they are storing the flag, you can destroy it and take over.
Huh... That's an interesting idea. So I could sneak into your base, destroy your flag, and then destroy your fort?

Ontopic: don't call him a liar, fool, go watch the video on YouTube about that kid who was griefing the port

My clan isn't about destroying stuff, it's about stealing stuff.
And yeah, maybe I was generalizing too much with 4chqn are cuts, I just hate some parts of it

because we really won't know what it is like till we get their.
