Just uh, wondering if clients, hacking and server tools wrecked multiplayer creative mode for anyone but myself and my friends. That is, assuming you were playing before people were doing that(I was there for the first client....sailor moon....). Before clients, there was minor griefing and it was always hilarious when people griefed and stuff, but as it grew, griefing kindof turned into common mischief grief-cause-I-can-get-away-with-it stuff,
now maps that don't have anti-grief are absolutely screwed. Believe me, I've ran multiple. you go to bed and wake up to find not just a minorly griefed map with hilarious griefing like it used to be, but a completely unusable mess with spongeblocks scattered upon every square inch of the map and nothing repairable or easily cleanable.
Now people go "woah, this map doesn't have anti-grief. *grief*"
even worse is people are so used to having to be a "builder" to build, they get on and ask "Can I be a builder?" even though they don't have to be to build. It's gotten really, really, bad.
I'm mostly worried about this screwing up SMP. which it would.
While yes it makes griefing easier, it makes building so much easier that I'm willing to not play on unregulated public servers to gain that benefit. And really, running a vanilla, unmoderated server is akin to putting a big block of legos in a kindergarten class and expecting none of them to get thrown.

I disagree, vanilla servers are nice, as long there's a spawn jail (with glitch-bubbles), and good ops to stop the griefing, and it'll survive if there's a lot of ops. Like when the owner goes to bed there's another op to look for the server. And then there's -hax, and stuff.
Edit: Oh and then there's backups

I believe that, yes, it is a tool for griefers to use, which is bad. During legitimate construction of... stuff, it's nice to be able to fly right up and fix that thing that doesn't look right, rather than pillar or something. The WoM servers cut down on the griefing... and anything else that annoys the OPs at the time.

Hey, try Red Eclipse. It's a free online shooter. It's shweet.
Of course, one of these threads has to pop up every few months...

As for the griefing aspect of hacked clients, it bothers me that people waste so much time complaining about them seeing as, at the moment, they cannot be fixed, and Notch is working to prevent them in future versions. Just do your best to act against it-- saying "WoM IS BAD, IT MAKES LOT OF GRIEF" is not going to help anything so just move on...
As for the building aspect of it (people who think it ruins the game to fly and run), it's all a personal preference. If anything, people complaining about this aspect of WoM is like the people who have butthurt over wiremod in Garry's Mod. If you think building with hacks ruins the game, don't build with hacks. You have no control over anyone else's building preference beyond adding -hax to your MOTD.
That's the end of my usual rant about these arguments.

so, rant/discussion?
