The Unofficial Minecraft Survival Guide!
--by Clockout1
This is just a little guide to help all you noobs out on getting around in multiplayer creative.
TIP 1: DO NOT GRIEF
The obvious one. For those of you who don't know what that is, griefing is intentionally (or if you're an idiot, unintentionally) destroying other peoples work, or just the ground. This doesn't mean you can't build underground (excluding tunnels. Just don't tunnel.) but if it belongs to someone else and you destroy it, it's griefing. And if you're REALLY stupid, right click to build.
TIP 2: SPEAKING IS GOOD
When you join a server, be sure you talk to people. Don't be that guy that never says anything. For those of you who don't know how to talk, press "t". Griefers usually don't speak, and if you never say anything and the server gets griefed, there's a chance you'll get blamed (a small one, but still a chance). Even if you feel like an idiot, talking to people allows you to get to know them, and potentially gain connections on other servers.
TIP 3: GENERIC PERSONALITIES ARE ENCOURAGED
When you first join a server, it is usually a good idea to hide your true personality until you get to know the people in positions of ranks. This especially applies if you're a smart ass like me. There's a bigger chance of being kicked/banned for being a smart ass when you don't know people as opposed to knowing them well. However, don't take it too far and behave like a total dumbass, be normal, but not annoying. Essentialy, you should slowly incorporate your personality as you get to know people on the server more.
TIP 4: DO NOT ASK FOR RANKS
Believe me, asking for a rank has got to be, next to griefing, the dumbest thing you can do on Minecraft. I usually play MCSharp servers, so to get builder, you build something, and ask an op (teal name) to look at it. Don't even mention the word builder. Keep your request simple, such as "Can you look at my building?" and not, "gimme builder plz". For advbuilder, it's more about trust than building at this point, but you still need to build something epic-er. Once again, never talking will result in never achieving this rank. And finally, NEVER, EVER ask for op. On most servers, you can become an op through winning a contest, so don't ask for it.
TIP 5: USE GRAMMAR AND SPELLING
No matter how stupid you feel, it is usually a good idea to to use proper spelling and grammar. Ops are much more likely to suspect someone of griefing is they speak like "i nvr did taht." So don't talk like that. I'm sure (or at least I hope) you don't talk like that in real life.
TIP 6: SERVER TYPES
MCSharp: Probably the most common server, it's actually quite simple. It is a server based on ranks (like most), and they are; guest, builder, advbuilder, op, and admin/superop. The colors are silver, green, dark green, light blue, and maroon, respectively. For the commands, just type /help on a MCSharp run server. To tell if the server you're on is MCSharp, you can always ask someone, or, I think that when you join, it displays a message that says "Welcome [you]! Please use /rules
MinerCCP: Minercpp is similar to Mcsharp in that you normally are require to build something and have it approved by an operator to become a build, or in this case, a user. The ranking system goes as such: guest, user, trusted user, op, trusted op, admin, elite, owner. Most Minercpp servers only host one map, so instead of an entire guest map, a much more limited guest area may be allotted for non-users, the rest of the map being for builders+. The powerful commands that come with Minerccp are not as numerous as in McSharp, but is still a huge upgrade to the standard server software which you may download from the minecraft website. (Kudos to Ashen137)
WOM (world of minecraft): A very, very, tightly structured server. The ranks here are: spectator, guest, member, designer, architect, moderator, respected, admin, executive, and owner. Colors are black, silver, green, light blue, slightly darker blue, reddish pink, navy, maroon, yellow, dark yellow. MCSharp has an interesting way of being run; higher-ups can actually undo the actions of griefers, and being demoted to a spectator means no building for you.
This concludes the guide (so far. I will probably expand on it.) So...
HAVE FUN!
