I wish it'd be a case where your freinds must perform paegonistic rituals to raise your corpse into a hideous beast with the strength of ten men and the aggression of a thousand bull elephants...Scary?

THIS.
but in all seriousness, necromancy would be pretty awesome. maybe not to respawn, can you imagine sitting around waiting for your friends to gather the blocks and place them around your body to preform the ritual. I'd rather mine a large chest of dirt.
but necromancy in general might have the potential to be awesome. Imagine hunting a pig and placing the ham inside a torch lit stone circle in the woods. There's a sudden burst of particle effects in the center and from where the pigs remains where rises a creeper.
The creeper would be friendly, follow you closely (about 3 blocks behind you) and would run towards the nearest unfriendly mob is sees then promptly detonate. A risky weapon, but effective to say the least.
I know the chances of something like necromancy in the game is slim to none, as raising the dead in games that could be rated for the ages of 10+ is frowned upon, but it would still be amazingly awesome :smile.gif:
Note: The reason I think ham would make for a creeper is because I've heard that "creepers are the failed first attempt of Notch to make a pig model".

I agree you. And I don't think it's necessarily slim-to-none, or at least a basic summoning system isn't. I personally would like to see the ability to learn a set of "deeper" skills, such as fighting, stealth, magic/sorcery/necromancy. However there's a balance here, because Notch doesn't want to make the RPG elements of Minecraft too strong.
Offtopic: For having the aggression of one thousand bull elephants, the strength of 10 men is rather...weak, no?
personally i hope theres something like a few in game day day period where your forced to be a spectator or can leave and come back when your times up and then re spawn with absolutely nothing. i think its fare. i dont like any of this come back with half your inventory crap. dead is dead. of course unless necromancy is involved.
Alright fine, but this is going to be a LOOOONG post. I'll start by quoting cat girl giggle.

Atleast you've got the logic to see how THAT would suck.

You can't make a circle out of squares, certainly not a small one. I'm sure you could make a diamond though. You would have to make the code recognize that specific pattern of blocks in relation to the terrain around it, which is an incredibly daunting task. I imagine Notch had to do something similar for the water physics, and even that's FAAAAR from perfect.
And it just seems so... out of character for the game. It'd be like getting a horse mount for Diablo II, sure it FITS the realm I suppose, but it's just a big ol' sack of useless and awkward.

Risky? How about completely useless and troublesome. Since when was the AI in this game good at pathfinding? What if a spider creeps up on you, do you want the creeper exploding under your nose? I sure don't. I really can't see a creeper being any kind of strategic help, other than a hindrance. It couldn't follow you worth **** either, it doesn't have the navigational creativity or speed that a human being does. It'd get stuck behind the smallest of walls, it'd fall in holes, it would drown, trample your crops, get in your way etc. What if an enemy runs inside my base, should the creeper run into my gallery room (filled with paintings) and explode?

This part makes a little sense.
But that's my piece. Necromancy is a headache waiting to happen.
How about... No Necromancy. Maybe when you lose all of your hearts you become incapacitated, only while other players are on the server, so another can come use a medkit or something to save you, or something. 8-)
LG_Legacy's simplistic idea of respawning will probably be used in Survival MP. Also, Subhazard has the right idea, I hate dying right after mining the most glorious vein of iron I've ever seen, and lose it all.
Predesignated burial grounds for rising out of the dirt like a zombie?
Discuss this with me.

Wait, wrong game.
If when you die you become a zombie. Maybe you have to kill/eat something before coming back alive?
Absorb the soul of a fallen miner to have a full form once again?
I like the idea of sinister reincarnation!
I lol'd.

Please, feel free elaborate on your feelings, Subhazard.

Heh.
No, that's also dumb. I don't wanna wait for some generous soul to find me a revive me. I'll take a respawn timer of 2 minutes, thanks.
Maybe you faint. And then get friends to drag you back to the town.
AndyF.m. fainted! Player "Trainer" escaped to nearest pokemon center.
And maybe in the process you could lose items in your inventory. (My friends robbed me! >:U )
Makoto: I'm a PC, and ragequit was MY idea.
Kaiser_czar: andy, your signature is ****ed up. other than that... its absolutely beautiful
And for that matter, who would drag you? Griefy McGrieferton and his griefposse?
Not likely.
When you die, you should lose everything in your inventory, except for what you've got equipped.
