No one mentioned it yet so I thought I'd say that Notch recently said that the whole lighting system is broken. That will take a while and there will be little to no progress you can actually "see" even thought it's probably difficult.

Honestly, I would be worried less about usercounts and updates and more of community quality. Of course speaking as one of the oldies I probably have a bias in this regard.

I've seen this in a lot of indi games. Everything is awsome and the updates come pooring in, then the author finds something he enjoys more and the progress trickles down. Usually people immediately start defending the author on boards, but as progress slows to nothing the downers grow in number until the community vanishes. The sad part about this, most of us have paid for this. I could be wrong here and hopefully am, but I am seeing this fall perfectly into the pattern like a swiss watch.
The updates or even post come every 2 to 4 months.
And notch update it at least 2 to 7 times a week.
So far, I never seen any person like notch updating the news so much in a week, it's actually extremely rare for an indie game or even game in general to have this kind of behavior.
Look for portal 2 or half life ep 3, all we got was a "coming soon for around the year" after years of waiting, and we are likely not gonna get anything except some loosy screenshots before full release.
so yeah, Notch is awesome, and he need to focus more on his moving and unpacking than a game, he is not even fully installed on his new apartment lol.
