I love thinking about all the cool things that will come from Survival MP, these are just some of the things I can see happening.
Manual Cartography
On an Infinite Survival Server I am looking forward to being like a cartographer of sorts, armed with my tablet and Photoshop I will map out the known world. Perhaps interested parties would even trade me for my knowledge of foreign lands.
Nations/Factions
I love thinking about the organized bunches of people that will create countries, guilds, armies, clans, tribes, etc.
Merchants and Caravans
Some one has to transfer the goods between the aforementioned Nations, and maps would be a requirement for the job.
Invasions
This is the most obvious, but pondering what this means can be very interesting... A commander with enough tact could take out a larger force with an organized attack strategy. Imagine a Trojan Horse of sorts, a group of soldiers that travel as guards of merchants, then once they have breached enemy walls open a side gate for the rest of their army.
Ruins
Surely people will abandon settlements after nearby resources have been exhausted, of course inversely this would lead to...
Capitals
...Settlements/cities that have been settled for a long time (likely dozens of real world hours, possibly days even). These old nations may import their resources from foreign lands, or the outer parts of their undoubtedly vast empires. Perhaps they have an unusually high amount of local resources.
These are just a few of my ideas, and I have to fly for now, but I promise to share more, and expand on current ones.
I'm just afraid of instantly being hunted, stalked, stabbed, looted and/or cooked the moment I join a server. I'm not sure if I would join a team in the forum in advance or just starting off independantly in Survival Multiplayer. If I came up to a group and asked if I could join, they might instantly think I'm trying to trick them and sneakily kill them one by one. There would probably be a lot of paranoia amongst players, because there's nobody you can truly trust.

You can't trust yourself?
Also the cartography would be awesome!
I want to be able to build maps.

Talent didn't go anywhere, it just gets lost in all the noise. You have to find it.
To solve the spawn problem, either the very first 3x3 area of the world should be 'stable' (LMB doesn't do anything, you can't mine, dig, attack, etc.), or there should be 10 or so spawn points loosely scattered around the 'center' of the world. Or a combo of the two.

there's still the bow, you can be attacked even if your attacker isn't close...so that 3x3 idea in open space is not a good idea.
what I suggest is something like the starting house on indev, completely closed with a few torches in it and you can't do anything as you said, and there would be an airlock to get out, so nothing can get you from far.
