Could you imagine, if when infinite multi-player comes out, we only had ONE server? think about the possibilities of that...Trade would definitely be a big factor...and towns. They would grow, as people find them. The further out you go from spawn, the smaller the towns, right up until you find the wild...

yeah. im thinking that it would be the best way, seeing as if we had heaps of servers, with only say, 5 people in them, wouldnt that be kinda....lonely? if we were all jumbled in together, it would be awesome fun. :biggrin.gif:
Though I think there will be more than one server...if Notch restricted it by not releasing server software, he would have to maintain it, and that would cost way too darn much. (and eat all his time).
They won't. PERIOD. Diamond, while still being infinite, will be JUST AS RARE, which means that people will trade diamond for large ammounts of stuff that takes time to find or make, like large ammounts of arrows or flint 'n' steel.

I've dug out a massive swath of the underground of my map. I'm starting to think you all talk about diamonds just to screw with me :tongue.gif:.
Let me summarize all these points:
- Time is a very important factor and definently creates economies
- The material around you is limited. Therefore one must travel further and further to get more and more materials (will cities actually be able to sustain themselves? We might end up being like native americans lol)
- Crafting things consumes resources. This further creates a drain on resources.
- Certain resources are rare = Higher Value
-I have yet to find the elusive diamond.
Conclusion: Economy will very much still be around
Trade will be still around because If you have a guy who makes weapons and likes doing so, and you don't want to go though the tedious process of making your own you can just trade for one.

Custom servers would soon pop-up along with client hacks to force the client to connect a different IP. It would take longer but it wouldn't even be just one server so long as there are dedicated programmers out there to create "hacks".
No no, no offense Rebel47, but I think you've got it wrong. If one person has the resources to mine the diamond, the TNT, the torches, the chest. It will chew up considerable resources if EVERYONE tried to get all those things. Money will not crush the economy. And also take into account THE PRICE. After the resources have been consumed, these people will be offering blocks of gold from their precious castle for HUGE AMOUNTS of money. If anything Infinite maps have made it easier and more effective. There could always be merchants, that run from city to city (or spawn point to spawn point) with resources. This has probably made the gameplay of Indev/Infdev better.
ya i kinda think that would be awesome
Raise my dragons please!!
