First of all, Hi, I've been lurking around here for quite a while and I bought the game, cheers for a soon to be (and already is one for me) triumph!
Alright, now back on topic. I saw many threads requesting parachutes, gliders, etc. And I found the idea quite good, but it led me to think about one thing; when is minecraft set? What If you wanted to do a medieval server or something, and you were stuck with things like parachute and gliders (I'm sure some of them existed back then but whatever)
So, I came up with this idea, how about making a setting, just like in the map generator thing (Floating, islands, inland etc.) Which only makes X,Y,Z weapons available (Medieval, Nowadays, etc), or perhaps the option to remove certain weapons from the game when you are server owner?
Okay I know The Game is far from complete, and I'm not even sure how survival/mining or whatever mode will work yet, and I doubt Notch knows it fully himself, but I thought I'd let you guys know about this thought I had.
Different ages would be good, I would stick to Medieval myself :smile.gif:
TNT was developed in the 19th century.
when is minecraft set?
Never.
Minecraft is set in a world where zombies roam freely, and you can bust open solid blocks of iron with your fist. It is not parallel to any time period in our world.

Then tell notch to make TNT a powder keg.

Hey again, I just thought of another thing, maybe you could also change the time INGAME aswell, and you could see the landscape change when you did for example +100 years or something, meh just throwing ideas. I know that coding can be such a pain.

EDIT: I guess Im dumb, lol I pretty much just said smrgnbrg's idea without even thinking. Sorry.
Minecraft is set at a time so far into the future that several eras of societies have come and gone, leaving it with the mix of technology it has today and it's cultures.
i'd like this game to have this single setting, but add muskets :3 they would have low accuracy and be harder to make, along with slow reload, but they'd still fit in the game, as they came around at the same time swords were still the major thing. and for a while swords and spears were still more effective. so the muskets would still go with the theme of the game. :smile.gif:

At the end of the day it's the chair I trust
The cushion is comfy and the works don't rust
With a straight line of vision to my Elvis bust
Watch the kingdom, eat the bread crust

Anywho, I think this would be a great idea to have determined ages. not the glider idea, but the set ages.
