Disclaimer: This thread is about the people who attack hacks and the people who respond back and how in the end hacks are fine.
I have always enjoyed this little community to a extent, but one thing that really annoys me and makes me want to rage is the fact some people of this community simply incite huge wars over them. For example, people will comment on how things would be better "if you did without hacks" or "Its bad because you did it with hacks" and the one that really annoys me "Hacks are what ruined minecraft" but the other sides are better. Why? Its because they show that they can be good.
Now, let me really identify what hacks are they are like a nuclear material it can be used for great evil or for great good, to light a nation or to smite a nation they can break and they can heal, they can be used for the onset of creativity with your easel below you or you can be the great mediator spotting the destructor's of others easel's. . . Then you can be the great evil flying above striking down upon the easel with a lust of destruction.
See? Hacks are both good and evil they are a way of life.
But the worst thing to onset upon these tools is the people who hate them and cannot silence themselves to avoid the accidental fallout, even if their intentions were that of good.
Why? you may ask. Is because they have been attacked by people with these "Tools of evil and devices of ruin" and cant come to accept the fact that these people who destroy dont need hacks to destroy, these people who attack hacks just want a scapegoat. And even worse is the adverse affect on communities! It seperates them and makes them distant and over time leads to the downfall of a community with such potential!
Some people may ask about those who distribute them, why yes they exist people accuse them of many things and others praise them, but what they really are is a treasure it causes much angst and arguments it can hold great good and great faults, but those distributors are in ways guardians of this treasure those who harm it are not allowed to use this treasure yes they may get past it. BUT why fuss? you can simply blocks this treasure to most with simple words, and those who get past you can simply remove from your domain? Is it really worth all the angst?
What may become of these hacks is never known? The creator of the game may choose to remove them but we never know if they may come back.
-To mods, please heavily moderate this thread-
If you wish to hate me do so, though please use a logical reason I do not wish to incite a flame war I wish to express a opinion on this.
I skipped half to most of it. Most enough to read "I've covered wars you know"
My thoughts on hacks in general: I don't give a ****, if you built it with either way? Thats fine, sure. I don't use hacks because i prefer to just play the way it was suppose to play, sure you get the people who whine and say "But you can't build this or that!" Sure you still can, only slower.
The only real reason i would ever use hacks is due to it's fullscreen capability, but even now i've been using the site for some reason.
If people don't want it in a server, disable it.
For create and survival, NEVER.
I use hacks, but never in creative or survival. It ruins the experience.
/My ten cents
If you don't use it in Survival, and you don't use it in Creative... Where... uh...
Anyways, I use hacks because the only difference it makes is speed. A building built with hax is indistiguishable from a building made without. I simply get it done faster, and more efficiently. I saw a murder metaphor somewhere: "You kill someone with an assualt rifle and it's murder. But if you kill someone with a handful of feathers and an egg, it's impressive murder."
Well, hax let me get go on killing sprees while you're still on victim number one.
Creativity doesn't suffer if hacks are used. If anything it's expanded, because people are more willing to make larger and more complex structures (with a few exceptions, i.e. LightWarriorK's Shadowmarch). They are not more or less capable to do these things, because hacks do not unlock any magic instabuild feature. They merely save time, and a lot of people like that.
That particular argument aside, I am somewhat on the fence on the whole issue. I don't think they ruin the game in the sense that they make building less special, but because it's obviously not what Notch has intended for HIS game. If he liked the idea, he wouldn't be planning to 'thwart' them in the future, and he probably would have integrated all the features provided in hacked clients into the game itself (I realize he's planning to appease everyone by allowing servers the option to enable/disable them because when he takes them out altogether, everyone ****ing cries). I'd be happy with either decision, I just wish Notch would take one side or the other (preferably the one HE wants and not the 'I have to make EVERYONE happy' side).
Anyways, I use them to help OP in my server. They are quite useful for that.
My view of them: It makes a building a lot less special. I do not say hacking is bad because of griefing.
I find that it makes building much easier and you can do more complex things (things that people would otherwise just make in a future level-editor if they couldn't do it with mods), but I find it cheapens what is already built. You get a different feeling from a town when you slowly stroll through it smelling the roses as you go compared to zipping across it in two seconds.
The logical fallacy in the post is massive, and I am surprised that nobody has noticed it. It assumes that the increase of griefing due to hacks is equal to the creations from hacks.
Anyway, I'm fine as long as server owners have a choice in the matter.
Derp how did I let that slip
Edit: HEY! Mail, this is more of a opinion in what I posted, and a opinion cannot constitute logical fact. So, it negates the fallacy also how I phrase things make them a bit difficult for truth trees and such as so it sometimes registers as fallacies :/
What where did I state that builds are better from hacks
(with a few exceptions, i.e. LightWarriorK's Shadowmarch).
:biggrin.gif: Thanks for the mention! Yes, I would not be near as proud of it if had been done with hacks. I need to finish it....but I'm afraid that the improvements being made to the game right now will force me to go back and change too much, especially since I'm building underground areas now that will need to be lit, so it's slow going.
I can easilly make my peace with leaving it to the server owner to control, but my thought is that if two identical buildings are created, both impressive and massive, but one was made with hacks in half the time, the other one will always be the better.
Except that nuclear weapons haven't been used in over 60 years.
I never use any hacks at all when playing Minecraft, and I've noticed that a lot of people who actually use hacks are quite surprised when they look at how I finished my work and a few even admitted that they've become lazy since they started using hacks.
but my thought is that if two identical buildings are created, both impressive and massive, but one was made with hacks in half the time, the other one will always be the better.
Just wait till the final game comes out and people start building massive towers in servers without using hacks, fighting off mobs, and mining and crafting everything that the tower is made from! That'll be impressive. :smile.gif:
