I was a lot faster than you. I have a mostly functional navigation, and I even edited the nav to include text labels and an alternate header background, on top of that it's all valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS level 3. :smile.gif:
It's possible to do, but the downside is, it won't look as awesome. And some browsers don't support text shadowing (which is what the buttons text has, but in image form).
The plus side is as you said it's easier to update and smaller download (I could use a repeating 1px width image for the background of the buttons).

Actually, I think we could use text shadow in CSS as all mayor browsers except IE supports it.
Just because the site must support IE doesn't mean that small details such as text shadow must work. As long as the main design work and all the divs aren't shuffled around the page.
Most of the time, IE7 proves to be a BIG problem when I'm designing the site, which sucks cause that's the browser my college uses. If only Chrome had a standalone EXE I could use... or does it...
Wow, I was making a template similar to the drawn design, but it pales in comparison to your work :biggrin.gif:, I won't even bother posting it :tongue.gif:
Wanted to note a couple things:
-Chrome does have a standalone exe (Chrome Portable)
-If you want to make a real modern, and nice looking site, I would recommend using JQuery, (unless someone has major knowledge in advanced Javascript). This allows for a more dynamic, awesome site.
I don't get what you're all fussing over, build the site how you envisage it in the language you want (HTML5 or HTML4, whatever) and then when it's done find what needs to be changed for specific browsers, if it's a single browser then add a work around.
Hey if you guys want any help with PHP just send me an email.
Also if mas are there too this could be good for making a thumbnail viewtopic.php?pid=46281#p46281

That's awesome, chances of releasing source code? :$
IE8 and HTML5 are enemies, you can't get them to work together. And since I do not know how many people still living in the IE darkness I do not want to take the risk having a lot of users not being able to use the site.
I have a logo and a basic website layout idea already. I'm going to make a mock-up of it tonight (xhtml). I can email that to Swedman, who I assume can make it work n' stuffs.
btw, SeanNanoware, that looks awesome, if we could incorporate your php into the site it would be simply incredible! (I have no idea how PHP works, so excuse me if I sound like a novice)
Wolfx, come on #minecraft or PM me your MSN so we can begin setting up the domain with the server. :smile.gif:
By the way, HTML5 is designed so that old browsers can safely ignore new HTML5 constructs. In contrast to HTML 4.01, the HTML5 specification gives detailed rules for lexing and parsing, with the intent that different compliant browsers will produce the same result in the case of incorrect syntax.
Hows that for a logo?
I'm going to work on a layout regardless if you use it not, to add to my portfolio.
Looks awesome, just no pink background. =P

Here is an early preview of the site I'm building. Not sure on the "active" state of the button. But to hell with it I'll sort that out another time.

Why you'd use HTML5 for this is beyond me anyway.
Don't need HTML5 support.
