I'll be happy to build sets for you guys, like I would have for the failed machinima project with Iguana. Having just played through the first half of the game, I can also help with level design and complement Duke 2.0. I'm applying for a builder position plus extra if necessary.
Regardless, count me in. This game is interesting.

Busy things are going on in my life : I need ideas, and idea people who are willing to think and come up with something excellent. We need this, or the project will fall. There's our basic setup and such (we know the setting and characters), but what shall we proceed to do? A plot is required. PLOOOOOOTTTTT
edit I'm braindead so I won't be helping much until a good idea is presented.

so. you want a cave story video? cant we use the plot in cave story? like Sue, and the Doctor, ect......someone should really set up a server do start this
Trying to do the whole story of Cave Story in one video would be inconvenient at best. I suggest we split it up into two or three parts. I'm also wondering how we would pull off battle sequences with the assets and game modes we have as of right now. Personally, I'd wait until multiplayer survival to try and put in any of those sequences, IMO.
(Also, just got the normal ending. Pretty good game, though I found the difficulty curve to be very bad at times in the game. Monster X shouldn't have been that hard; more like Core difficulty. I'll be doing the Hell run later this weekend (Fat chance that, gotta re-do the game and get my Nemesis. Going to need it)).

Some of the sequences in Doukutsu Monogatari will be difficult to pull off effectively, such as any sequence with Balrog. We will have to use some very time-consuming stop-motion animation for him, and whoever acts Misery will need to use a flying hack. I anticipate that we'll be doing a lot of altering skins, so that we different facial expressions for characters. At any rate, we're going to need plenty of extras with premium accounts.
Most important, however, is that we get ourselves some well-needed real estate. Someone needs to get us a running private server, so that the set builders and those obligated with the role of accurate level depiction can actually get to work (like me, you know). We can always worry about how we would do story sequences, acting, and battles, but sets should be a priority right now.
tl;dr GET A PRIVATE SERVER ASAP hurr

Well, if anything, we just need to secure the server. Then brainstorming should be the next step (though I already am in the process right now...funny eh?). I'm concerned about how tedious the project will be, regardless, as we'll probably need a cameraman with the right texture mods for the job (we'll have to make them based on the game's tileset, as Duke has stated).

Experiment. That'll solve it the hard way, and give us something which we can reference to. Enact a scene from the usual two-dimensional perspective, and then from a three-dimensional perspective. Try different camera angles in 3D, even go for an isometric view. Fun stuff, ma boy.

Definitely. My problem with him is the process of just animating the large model (if you're thinking of having someone act as him in a skin, then heck no).

I think it would be best to start with a very small project;
If we're trying to experiment with different methods, we could take a simple existing scene from the game (which takes place in a smallish area and over a short period of time) and give it a go.
My suggestion:
The Hero's return to the shack where he first gets the Polar Star. (whether or not he still has it to trade is a different question)
Have a bit of dialogue there (talking with the hermit gunsmith),
all characters involved are easy (hero & hermit are both humanoid, and cannot float or do anything that really requires special effects)
a small area in which to contain it with a simple tileset (the cave),
and even a possibility of experimenting with methods for combat (the enemies in the cave, and the spikes in the cave).

If so, the scenario would have to be during the side-quest to acquire the Spur (Polar Star upgrade) in order for the hermit to be awake (canonically). Aside from that clarification, yes, that would work very well. I suggest that we use the two-dimensional perspective when Quote is fighting in the First Cave and try the three-dimensional perspective when he enters the Hermit's home.
By doing this experiment, we can get ourselves a requisite server, a plan of how we'll do the films (either lengthy or episodic in parts), and some well needed experience.
Also, thoughtful suggestion Droqen.

lol! marach can ya host? we could do it in like a sidescroller thingy. the camersman would walk in a small collum/row while filming, but the minecrafters would be 3-d
Regardless, count me in. This game is interesting.

I think for plot we should either do a remake of the cave story plot or make up a side plot set in the cave story universe.
EDIT: I made a quick Cave Story tileset.
Sorry for the ridiculous image sizes. :sad.gif:
