On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 5:28 PM EST, in underd0g's Custom Map Server, the first official game of Murp was played between Minecraft users Beardbeard and 40Ringz. Beard won that first game. :tongue.gif:
What exactly is Murp?
Well, it's simple. Basically, you try to push someone off the edge of a created arena or stage by walking into them. Think of it as Minecraft sumo wrestling.
Classic Rules
These rules apply to all Classic Murp games.
- The use of any hack is not allowed.
- Jumping is not allowed.
/agree w/Vladimire. Also, best to make SURE it's confined to an arena, as it's been apparently recommended to ud to that he consider pushing as griefing (with possible exceptions similarly to the way there are for "spleef").
It seems like a coin flip weather the community will embrace Murp or something along the lines of sumo as the official name of this. I suppose it depends on what Notch puts on his blog when he sees large arenas over it.
And boy, so many variations can be made with this. From just a 3.1 platform to a 3x3 platform without the corners or the center tile, one can do quite a bit with this. And without having to rebuild the destroyed arena again.
I like the idea, myself, speaking as both a player and an op, PROVIDED the sport is kept within arena boundaries. The name could use work (spleef isn't a 'nonsense word', it has its basis in the word 'grief', which the game itself is a controlled/confined version of, so why should other minecraft sports not follow suit?), however.
Murp sounds like a game where there is a ten tile line in a Cross matter, only one single block consists of the line though, the users rush to the middle and try to push each other off. Underneath is a lava pit.

The first Murp arena was extremely simple:

As you can see, such a simple game can easily be expanded upon.
If the game gains popularity, more rules will be created.

"murp" sounded like a word spammers would spam, so I demonstrated to prove a point. I wish the mods were more strict with other people, though.

Your making your point in the wrong way. If you don't like the name then why don't you suggest a new one? Or maybe just not post at all.

4 player murp?

I tried this on a server and it was fun.
Four player murp?!
Madness!
