What Notch didn't explain in his posts was where the heck these half blocks would come from. Would the world be constructed with a combination of whole and half blocks, or would these need to be crafted?
I'm just not convinced this is the right direction to go. Why doesn't he work on the crafting details instead of these various side tracks (rain, half blocks, 3-D, etc)?
He isn't side tracking, Half-blocks are a necessity. Jumping around constantly gets real tiring after a while. Stairs are one of the most requested things, and half blocks are the solution. I don't see how making half blocks would be any more difficult than gathering your resources normally, and just selecting either half or full block of what you want in the menu.

I sure hope half blocks aren't just spawned in the world by default. I'm really skeptical of the whole smaller-than-normal block idea. It seems like a one way ticket to lagville to me. I think half blocks should not be spawned in the map by default. Instead, I think they should be made solely thru crafting, and they just be maybe a few different colors or something. I don't think there should be half dirt blocks or half versions of any natural blocks, except maybe planks. I hope Notch doesn't delve into this idea too much and make it extensively integrated into the game.
I like the weather idea though, and I commend Notch for coming up with an original new type of mob (spiders that spawn web blocks seems really awesome to me). As for half blocks, one-eighth blocks, sloped blocks, and all other suggestions of that type, I don't really think it's the best way to go. Half blocks seem OK as long as they are kind of limited.
^ He mentioned in the update that they'll be done with crafting, but until then they come from coal ore.
I like the rain, but I'd probably never use it if it were on/off. Maybe have it show up randomly for a while, preceeded by the clouds turning into stormclouds?
STAIRRRSSSS
I'm not sure to post this in survival or discussion...
But, STAIRS we need this in mp now! :smile.gif:
