I was just tooling around in single player, building some things. I have played single player before, and enjoyed being able to play by myself. But suddenly, someone else appeared. I have no idea where they came from, but suddenly they were there, and they were running around very close to me.
Am I going crazy? Is there a glitch in the program, or is this a built in thing that other people show up in single player?
Well you can always trick them into a neverending hole that leads to a lava pit. Then dig the pit deeper so all walls are at least 2 blocks high. make it 3 or 4 if you want it to dissapear foreever. Because mobs ar too stupid to swim up. and you cant see them.
They can't swim up because fuilds don't affect them at all. THey aren't slowed down by them and gravity is normal.

If you spawn over 50 or so, it can start to lag very horribly regardless of where you put them, especially with a few hundred running around.
The max of the mobs is 100, so you can't have a few hundred running (anymore).

It's not that the mobs are too stupid to swim, it's just that they overall ignore water physics. Try tracking down a mob underwater, it'll go just as fast as you are running on dry land, but it can't swim. Honestly, I'd say it's a bug that needs to be fixed, and it can be fixed (as demonstrated in survival mode).
